Share Your Faith With Me
S everal years ago I went through a few years of horribly difficult trials (financial, legal, marital, work, etc.). I was deeply in debt from two failed business ventures. Both failed because of circumstances out of my control. My wife was having to take about three months off fromwork without pay. I was behind onmy house payments. I was on the verge of bankruptcy. It was December 3rd, and as I walked intomy place of employment, my boss had tears in his eyes. He said, “Bart, you’ve just been laid off!” It could not have come at a worse time. For two or three days I stewed, and worried, and fretted. I was worried about keeping a roof over our heads, let alone have any sort of Christmas for our girls. My wife and I hadn’t purchased a single Christmas present. About the third day I asked the Lord to forgive me for not trusting that He would provide for me. I told the Lord, “Lord, I want to have faith that you’ll provide, but I just can’t muster the faith. I want to believe you, but I don’t have it inme”. Then I prayed something I’d never prayed before. I prayed, “Lord Jesus, I want to trust you that you’ll provide for me, but I don’t have it. Would you share your faith with me?” Within 15 minutes I received a phone call from one of the larger restaurants in town, and they ordered $3,500 worth of my photographs. Then, a couple of days later I received a check for $1,000, a gift from a friend. Then, a day or so later, I received another check for $500.Then I found out that I was getting some severance pay, and another hospital offered me a job. God provided. We had a modest but wonderful Christmas. I didn’t have to declare bankruptcy. While it took me many more years to pay off all my debts, I still look back on that time of trial and I think of Jesus’ faithfulness in sharing his faith with me when I had none of my own. d
