A Rich Welcome Home

T here is a story told about an old missionary who had faithfully served the Lord overseas. His health had deteriorated and he was having to return to the States to spend his last few years. He came across the ocean on a huge ocean liner. It so happened that there was a very famous celebrity aboard the ship. As it pulled into the harbor, there was a large crowd of people there to greet the celebrity with banners and balloons. As the old missionary hobbled down the gangplank, there wasn’t a single soul there to greet him. He felt so discouraged and looking up to heaven said, “Lord, did you forget?”—The Lord said, “My son, you’re not Home yet!” The verse II Peter 1:11 talks about those committed to the Lord’s work receiving a “rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior...” I started thinking, “What would a rich welcome be? Obviously, to have the Lord welcome me with open arms would be joy beyond measure, and then I thought of all the hospice patients I’ve known who have died. I got to thinking, Wouldn’t it be awesome if many of the hundreds of patients I’ve known and worked with were there to greet me as I enter heaven?” Talk about a joyous homecoming. d
