A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
We have had another busy week this week at Waldegrave. Students have been doing really well in lessons and continuing to be proactive in going to after school and lunchtime clubs and competitions. It is always fantastic to see Year 9 students getting involved in the wider life of the school. In form time this week, students did a series of activities organised by the UK Youth Council called ‘Make your Mark’. This is a UK-wide consultation which gives all young people aged 11-18 in the UK the chance to have a say on the biggest issues facing young people. Students in form time had to vote for one topic out of ten as the biggest issue. The topic chosen will influence hundreds of projects and campaigns led by young people. Congratulations to the Indoor Rowing team who competed in the RSSP event on Friday 9 February. Nanne and Libby competed in the year 9 event. Nanne rowed 950m to place 5th overall and Libby rowed 985m and was 3rd overall. Waldegrave placed second overall, a big well done to everyone who participated! It was a pleasure taking some of our Year 9 students to the Careers Festival at the London Guildhall at Bank this week. The students made us proud and we had several members of the public congratulate us on their behaviour. Hopefully this event will have ignited a passion for a specific career route in our students. Congratulations to 9SPI for getting the most epraise points this week. They are followed by 9PGO and 9EPA. Well done! A reminder that today is the last chance for students to complete their GCSE options form. The form is on the students google classroom with a booklet that also goes through details about the process. Please ensure your child has completed this. On Monday we will be commemorating SAFE Day (Substance Advice for Everyone Day). SAFE Day is a borough-wide day of action for all students in Kingston & Richmond. Students will be doing activities in form time which focus on supporting young people to make safer choices about drugs.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
“ One Day ” by David Nicholls
“ One Day ” by David Nicholls is about Emma and Dexter who meet one night on the 15th of July 1988 but go their separate ways the next day. However, the novel follows both of them and their story together every 15th of July for the next 20 years. The Netflix adaptation of the book has recently been released and if you have enjoyed the show, I would really recommend the book because the book version gives you a unique insight into the story.
