As a chaplain I was once talking with a patient . She said she felt like she wasn’t good enough to go to Heaven. I said, “You’re not!” Her eyes got as big as saucers. Then I said, “That’s why we need a Savior!” I then told her the story about the brother and sister who had each received their school pictures. The sister was complaining about how bad her pictures looked. She said, “These pictures don’t do me justice.” Her brother responded, “You don’t want justice. You want mercy!” (The lady chuckled.) I told her, “I don’t know about you, but I don’t want God’s justice on judgment day. I want and desperately need His mercy! ” In the Bible mercy is defined as not receiving what we deserve. In other words, we deserve God's judgment and hell, but God offers us mercy and forgiveness. To receive it we must
