Also, in the gospel accounts, the disciples don’t falsely cast themselves in a favorable light, as one would expect, if they were making up the story. They record their own bickering, Peter’s denial, their cowardice, etc. Yet these Jewish followers of Jesus, who believe in only one God, spoke of the glory and sinlessness of Jesus and called Him “Lord” and “God” [e.g., John 1:1,14; 20:28; Acts 20:28; Romans 9:5; etc.]. Jesus’ disciples lived with Him day in and day out for three years, and yet they were willing to die for their belief that He was sinless and “God.” Could anyone live with you for three years, or even three days, and think you are God? And why, if the story was contrived, would they make up a story where the first eyewitness to see Jesus alive was a woman, Mary Magdalene? Remember, in that culture women were not highly esteemed. The resurrection story of Jesus bears all the marks of authenticity.
