we have today is over 99.9 percent reliable. Not one word in 1,000 is in question, and no major doctrine is in question. In the last 150 years, schools of higher criticism popularized the notion that the biblical texts had been hopelessly contaminated. We now know the facts simply do not support such claims. Concerning the Hebrew Bible, (the Old Testament ), most Jewish and Christian scholars had been using the Masoretic Hebrew text dated around 1,000 A.D. In 1947, a young shepherd boy discovered, what are now called The Dead Sea Scrolls, in the caves of Qumran in Israel near the Dead Sea. Major portions of the Old Testament were found. They are easily dated around, or before, the time of Christ. What they discovered is that the Qumran manuscripts were virtually identical to Masoretic text with only tiny variations (a few misspelled or a skipped word here or there, etc.).
