ARRIVAL DAY
DAY 2
Welcome to Alladale Lodge with hospitality couple Stuart and Mandy. Lunch will be hosted by Paul and HAVASI. This afternoon, we will take a short walk over the hill to the historic Croick Church. From there you have the option to cycle, walk or drive back to the lodge passing the old Amat woods and then to watch salmon leaping waterfalls. Then we meet Hugh Fullerton-Smith who will introduce us to Alladale’s aquaponic gardens where our vegetables, salads and micro greens are grown in an award-winning zero-waste system. Over drinks and canapes, HAVASI will speak about his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings in Hungary, to his global fame as a piano virtuoso. He will also talk of the inspiration he derived from his previous visit to Alladale, which led to a composition he wrote for his son Eliot. The film was shot and edited by Norman Strachan. Click here to enjoy this beautiful composition. HAVASI will play this as part of his recital tonight before dinner.
Before breakfast there is the opportunity to go bird watching with Ryan Munro, Alladale’s Head Ranger, whilst exploring the lodge environs. After breakfast Innes MacNeill, Alladale’s Reserve manager, will take us on a 4x4 excursion westwards along Glen Mhor towards Deanich Lodge, one of Britain’s most remote dwellings. Here we will have time to enjoy a coffee break and stretch our legs. During the morning’s drive, Innes will explain about Alladale’s pioneering tree planting programs, and the plans for more landscape restoration work in 2025. Returning along the broken track, we will stop at a special location adjacent to the Carron River and enjoy a wild lunch. You will then have the option to drive, walk or bike the 3 miles back to the lodge. Some downtime is reserved before we enjoy a second evening with HAVASI playing before dinner.
