Inscribed on the reverse with Shepard’s name and address, and titled in Shepard’s hand on the backing board, “Winnie the Pooh - “The Expotition to the North Pole” Ernest H Shepard Woodmancote Lodsworth Sus- sex”. [44216] £45,000 ‘ The Expotition to the North Pole’ forms chapter 8 of Winnie the Pooh. These drawings are new compositions and were probably drawn for inclusion in The World of Pooh but not used. The preliminary pencil sketches (on a single page laid out as mounted here) are held in the V&A and are referred to on p.45 of The Pooh Sketchbook with the note, “This appears to be a preliminary sketch for a later coloured illustration (possibly for The World of Pooh) which was not used”. PROVENANCE: Exhibited at F.W.Chapman & Sons, Hasle- mere, 29 May - 12 June 1965.

[43345] £60,000 A charming colour drawing of Pooh’s visit to Owl’s parlour, a re- drawn version of the drawing which originally appeared on page 49 of the first edition of Winnie the Pooh in 1926. This piece was pos - sibly a preparatory drawing for one of the new colour plates to be used in The World of Pooh, an omnibus edition of the Pooh stories, published in 1957. 207.
