I ’ve been working in the home improvement business, in one way or another, for many years. I started out working at my dad’s roofing company. After several years, I split off and built my own company, Rainy Day Services, that specialized in roofing, gutters, and home inspections. Ten years later, I partnered up with my brother John, and we added water and fire damage cleanup services. We still run that company today and have a lot of fun with it. In the beginning, our work at Rainy Day Services exposed us to a lot of problems we didn’t yet provide services for. We once went into somebody’s laundry room to work on water damage, for example, and we realized we could fix the water damage, but there were other underlying problems. In this case, if the client didn’t address their termite problem too, they’d just go right back to feeding the termites and have another repair project on their hands in the not-so-distant future. That’s how QuickSumo Pest Control was born. We realized that because of the expertise we’d honed over years in the home improvement industry, we could help people in so many more ways than we were originally offering. When John and I bought the pest control business, the first thing we did was change the name to QuickSumo Pest Control. We wanted our company to have a fun, memorable name that people could get excited about. When people ask how we came up with the name, we tell them that it was inspired by a missionary trip I took to Japan where I fell in love with sumo wrestling. This also inspired our mascot, Sumo Sam. And since we’re about quick results and quick turnaround, putting the words quick and sumo together worked perfectly. We like that our name is quirky and memorable. In the beginning, we didn’t know the first thing about pest control, other than how to squish bugs or get bitten by mosquitoes. We like that QuickSumo allows us to have longer standing relationships with our customers than, say, putting on a roof once every 10 years. We also liked that because QuickSumo is a second business for us, we can have a little more fun with it and be much more generous with its profits. condition called Angelman’s syndrome, drowned. Because I also have two children with special needs, we give discounts to other families who have kids with special needs. My own kids are home-schooled — I have six of them, two of whom are adopted — and we also give discounts to families that home-school. We know exactly how much work and energy it takes to do that well! Running a business with a sibling isn’t for everyone, but John and I have been collaborating since we were little boys. We used to team up when we played the Nintendo game “Metroid” together on a little black-and-white TV in our laundry room. As we went through the game, John would draw maps, and I’d work the controls. We’ve always teamed up well together, and I can’t think of anybody I’d rather run a business with. Classic Comedies for Tweens and Teens
For parents, movie selection can sometimes seem pretty limited. When your kids are young, you may feel shackled to the latest Disney animated features. But as they get a little older, you might want to introduce them to some real classic comedies. After all, who doesn’t like to have a laugh with their loved ones? Here’s a look at just a few side-splitting films that still hold up.
‘THE PRINCESS BRIDE’
the movie lands its message of self-acceptance so well that you’ll be clamoring for an encore.
Endlessly quotable and full of heart, this 1987 irreverent fantasy story is perfect for kids looking to graduate from fairy tales. While the dialogue contains a handful of swears and enough mild innuendo to earn a PG rating, most of the violence is played up for comedy rather than appearing gritty and real. Be prepared for your kids to repeat Inigo Montoya’s lines again and again.
‘MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL’
There’s nothing quite like the comedy of Monty Python. Surreal, witty, and unabashedly ridiculous, “Holy Grail” defies nearly every convention of storytelling and revels in doing so. That said, this film is recommended for teens since it has some strong elements of innuendo in one particular scene. Another scene contains over-the-top violence that is intentionally made to look fake, but it may still scare younger viewers. If you’re looking to show your teens a whole new world of comedy, then this 1975 classic will make their imaginations run wild.
‘SCHOOL OF ROCK’
According to Common Sense Media, many parents choose to ignore the PG-13 rating on this 2003 comedy and show it to their tweens. Besides brief strong language and a few scenes with adults consuming alcohol, this Jack Black movie is surprisingly tame for being about rock ‘n’ roll. Beyond the endearing characters, Black’s hilarious antics, and an amped-up soundtrack,

There is a broad array of sprays, oils, and creams on the market designed to repel mosquitoes, and the repellent that’s right for you is an individual choice. Once you find one you like, be sure to stock up. If you plan on wearing bug repellent and sunscreen at the same time, the Canadian Pediatric Society recommends applying sunscreen first and allowing it to soak into your skin for approximately 20 minutes before applying the bug repellent.

2 1/2 tbsp olive oil, divided 4 boneless and skinless chicken breasts, pounded to a 1-inch thickness Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp Parmesan cheese 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted 6 tbsp spinach pesto 2 cups cherry tomatoes 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced 1 tsp red wine vinegar

1/4 cup whole- wheat panko
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. 2. Season chicken with salt and pepper, and add it to pan. Cook chicken for 5 minutes on each side, then remove pan from heat. 3. In a bowl, combine panko, Parmesan cheese, and butter. 4. Spread pesto over chicken and top with panko mixture. 5. Broil chicken for 2 minutes on high heat until browned. 6. In a skillet, heat remaining oil over medium-high heat. 7. Add tomatoes and cook for 6 minutes. 8. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly. 9. Season tomato mixture with salt and pepper, and add red wine vinegar. 10. Serve tomatoes with broiled chicken.
