Elgin Theatre Guild’s Upcoming Season by Peri Hayes Cailyn Arnot-Howe details her dedicated involvement with the Elgin Theatre Guild (ETG): “I have been a part of the Elgin Theatre Guild since 2000 when I auditioned and ended up working on hair and make-up for the Christmas show.” Evidently drawn to this space, Cailyn proceeds with, “Over the years, I have worked in many different areas of theatre; a huge part as a Stage Manager, but more recently both as a Director and the Theatre President. When I first started helping out at the theatre, it was as a suggestion from a friend.” Following this experience, Cailyn’s engagement evolved through collaborating on high school shows and ultimately transitioning to postsecondary for her degree. “Because of the ETG, I have been able to express my creative side in designing sets, light design and building a story over-all.” With the ETG’s new season on the horizon, Cailyn shares what this chapter will entail: “The upcoming season is focusing on familiar favourites, and also comedy that warms the soul. Deciding what to put in for the season can be quite stressing; we want to find shows that complement each other, but are also different enough that those who come for each show don’t see the same thing over and over again.” “As the next season approaches, I am excited to see what our Directors are going to do with two well-known shows, but also hope to see new people – not only come out and watch, but also take to the stage. We always welcome people to come out and volunteer, be it onstage — or if that isn’t for them — helping out backstage. We encourage everyone to try something new and if they haven’t swung a hammer or lifted a paintbrush before,
that is okay. We want to work with them and show what beauty can be created with fabric, paint and wood.” The first show of the season is expected to open on September 18th, 2025, with their final show being in the spring. Cailyn highlights, “Our website at the moment is undergoing updates to help draw in patrons and theatre lovers, but also to provide information about us.” Presently, those with inquiries are encouraged to message ETG either on Facebook or send an email to elgintheatreguild@gmail.com. As Cailyn delightedly concludes, “We look forward to having everyone come out for our closing show of ETG’s 57th season, Keep on Laughing , by Paul Elliott. It runs from May 22nd to June 1st, 2025, and continues the story that began with the show, Exit Laughing , two years ago. We will get a chance to catch up with some familiar characters, and find out about their amazing trip to France.”
