Jordan’s Run the Runway Takes Off in St. Thomas Jordan’s Run the Runway is coming to St. Thomas-Elgin for the very first time! On Friday, June 13, 2025, runners will take off down the runway at the St. Thomas Municipal Airport in a unique event celebrating community, determination, and the legacy of a young runner. “The event is inspired by Jordan Strickland, who was a long-time YMCA member and camper,” says Stephanie Couwenberghs, Development Events Coordinator & CEO Admin Support for YMCA Southwestern Ontario. “He spent his summers at Camp Queen Elizabeth, and after he tragically passed away at 27, what was meant to be a one-time event to raise funds in his honour has grown to become something truly incredible.” Since its inception in 2014, Jordan’s Run the Runway has expanded, with events in London, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia- Lambton. Now, St. Thomas-Elgin will experience the energy and excitement for the first time. Funds raised from the St. Thomas event will stay local, directly supporting the YMCA’s financial assistance program to ensure access to camps, programs, and services for those in need. “It’s important to us that St. Thomas looks after its own,” Stephanie emphasizes. “Every dollar raised will stay right here in the community, helping people access YMCA opportunities regardless of financial barriers.” The event offers a 5K run, walk, roll, or pull, making it accessible to participants of all abilities. For younger participants, there’s also a 1K Kids’ Trot. “It’s truly an inclusive event, bringing people together to celebrate and support one another,” Stephanie enthuses.

The evening kicks off with kit pick-up at 5:30 pm. Participants will receive race gear, including a commemorative T-shirt. The Kids’ Trot will begin at 6:30 pm, followed by the 5K at approximately 6:45 pm. Official timing and prizing are provided by BackRoads Brews + Shoes and ASICS, with awards presented to the top three male and female finishers. “After the race, everyone is invited to the hangar for a celebration,” Stephanie says. “There will be music, a raffle, food, and beverages – it’s a wonderful way to wrap up the evening.” Hometown St. Thomas Magazine is proud to be a sponsor of this impactful event. With a fundraising goal of $50,000 and a target of 250 participants, the St. Thomas community has the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. “Everyone seems to have a Y story,” Stephanie notes. “It’s a place where people come together, find support, and reach their full potential. We’re excited to see the impact this event will have in St. Thomas.” For those interested in participating, supporting, or in spon- soring Jordan’s Run the Runway, registration and more infor- mation can be found at www.runtherunway.ca.
