Mata spent the entire 2024 season on the Boston Red Sox injured list with a variety of ailments. He rehabbed with four different Red Sox Minor League affiliates throughout the year including 6 games with the WooSox. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2016, the right-hander was 29-27 with a 3.46 ERA in 108 career minor league ap- pearances (101 starts) heading into the 2025 season. A Venezuela native, Bryan was ranked as the Red Sox top pitching prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com prior to the 2023 campaign.
