ANNUAL GIVING REPORT By-the-numbers breakdown

Eternally Grateful Marian University’s commitment to serve as a great Catholic university in this great American city continues unabated, and with greater enthusiasm and record of accomplishment than ever. This annual report highlights our progress and the fruits of your ever-increasing investments in Marian University. Our progress and your generosity make this report an enormous expression of gratitude to the many friends and partners who have joined in this journey of success. The milestones we have reached in our journey of achievement provide a profound proof that a university dedicated to academic excellence, illumined by the light of faith, is a powerful force for good and attracts an ever-growing student body and supporters and friends like you. Our commitment to growing this great Catholic university has attracted many outstanding leaders who have shown, once and again, their courage to venture with us through the choppy economic, cultural, social, demographic, and technological waters of our times. It is powerfully edifying to serve with so many wonderful trustees, faculty, staff, donors, and friends to achieve the terrific progress chronicled in this report. The manner in which we live up to the standards established by the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg brings all of us much joy, and a sense of fidelity to those to whom we owe so much. One major and mighty milestone we reached in Marian University’s progress is that our doctoral education, research, and enrollment growth has placed us in the Carnegie Classification as a Doctoral/Professional University. The Carnegie Classification puts Marian in a group of 423 top universities in the nation. These classifications are used by researchers, policymakers, and administrators, and inform grant-making and research opportunities. Simply stated, Marian University is among the leading universities in the United States of America – this is a big deal! The Carnegie Classification and the many dramatic developments that we have experienced are the fruits of much prayer, a commitment to academic excellence, and the tremendous generosity of many alumni and friends of Marian. All these achievements documented in this, and past annual reports, are only possible because of our unflagging commitment to serve our students well and ensure that we fulfill the Marian Promise. The Marian Promise is a very simple yet profound commitment – that each and every one of our students will be prepared to lead a good life. Furthermore, our

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF MARIAN UNIVERSITY

students will be prepared to excel in their chosen professions and other leadership roles they assume throughout their lives. This simple yet profound promise is accomplished by: 1. An education illumined by the light of faith and grounded in values and ethics; 2. Challenging academic programs supported by a vibrant and caring community that guides students in achieving excellence; 3. Innovative, active, and engaged approach to learning on campus and beyond; and, 4. Leadership education that prepares a Trustworthy, Healthy, Inquisitive, and Skilled leader. What is next for Marian University as we boldly venture forward in this decade of service to our students, the professions, and the common good? The strategic plan Journey to 2030: Always Forward , constructed after much research, discussion, and prayer, directs Marian University to a whole new level as a world-class university. Our vision, mission, values, and three strategic priorities center on: 1) Student Access and Success ; 2) Science, Technology, Engineering, Health professions, and Math [STEHM] illumined by the Liberal Arts; and, 3) Faith, Character, and Ethics in Action. Journey to 2030: Always Forward will require considerable resources – excellent leadership, highly skilled professionals, expanded finances, and partnerships that are second to none. It is a worthy journey. Much like Mother Theresa when she journeyed from Austria to Oldenburg, Indiana. Much like when the Sisters of Oldenburg built Marian College during the Great Depression and moved to Indianapolis in 1937. Much like the visionary leadership of the Board of Trustees during this century transforming Marian College to a great Carnegie-1 university. Yes, it will take resources. Yes, it will take a generous effort. Yes, it will take much prayer and grace. This magnanimous effort is more than important to Marian University; It is critically necessary in the times in which we live and for the future we wish to create for our students, our nation, and the world.

President Daniel J. Elsener delivers the Commencement Address at the Graduate and Doctoral Students Commencement Ceremony on May 8, 2022.

Words cannot adequately express my appreciation, nor the thankfulness of Marian University students, colleagues, or the enterprises that have benefited from our graduates’ outstanding influence in the world. My hope is that, reflection on the tremendous good work our alumni are doing - in education, health care, business, engineering, ministry, science, and more - brings you great satisfaction and edification that words will never fully convey. Through this prayerful reflection, you can be assured you are partnering in an enduring legacy of the highest purpose and consequence. Gratefully,

Daniel J. Elsener, President

MARIAN UNIVERSITY FEATURE STORY

Living the American Dream Rebecca Kubacki goes from migrant camp to public servant.

As a young child growing up in a migrant camp in southwest Florida, Rebecca Espinoza Kubacki ’22 (Hon.) never would have dreamed of delivering a commencement address to the Marian University graduating class of 2022. To better understand the 2022 commencement speaker, one must first understand where she came from, the leaders that influenced her, and how she feels compelled to give back and lead within the community. Born to migrant working parents in Immokalee, Florida, Rebecca was one of seven children. Her family spent time working in the agriculture fields of Florida and the Midwest before settling, in northern Indiana. Although the Espinoza family had limited financial resources, Rebecca’s parents instilled a strong work ethic, a deep appreciation for the opportunities granted within the United States, and urged their children to pursue their passions—no dream was ever too big. “I remember as a child that my father always took great pride in being part of the United States and encouraged us to maintain our cultural identity, but to also embrace the patriotism and pride of being Americans. We lived in a very modest home, but my father flew an American flag proudly in our front yard, and that has had a lasting impact on me and my siblings,” states Kubacki. As Rebecca and her husband of 49 years, Mike, pursued their professional endeavors and raised their two children, Katharine and Matthew, she continued to feel a calling to serve. In 2010, Kubacki was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives and became the first Latina Republican in the Indiana General Assembly. “My life as a public servant was such an honor. On the night of the election in 2010, we were gathered at my daughter’s house. We were going to support each other as a family, no matter what the outcome. When the results came in and I had won, there were many tears. The tears were not so much for the victory, but the realization of how far we had come as a family from the migrant camps growing up. We have lived the American Dream.” As a public elected official, Kubacki took great pride representing not only her constituents, but so many Latino men and women who had not been engaged with the U.S. political system. She prided herself in working across the aisle and placing the state’s interest above party and political motivation. Opposite: Read about how Manuela Salazar has been a catalyst to increase enrollment and scholarships for Latino students.

INTRODUCING THE MARIAN UNIVERSITY LATINO INITIATIVE

In 2019, Manuela Salazar was recruited as Marian University’s inaugural Executive Director of Latino Leadership, and she has generated incredible results both from enrollment and fundraising. With Salazar’s leadership, the Office of Institutional Advancement raised $289,151 during the 2021-22 fiscal year. Salazar’s

Kubacki was introduced to Marian University President, Daniel J. Elsener, by longtime friend, Jerry Semler. “When I first really got to know Dan, I was impressed by his passion and deep commitment to making a real difference in the lives of all students, especially so many Latino students who had previously not had the opportunity to pursue higher education.” This relationship taught Kubacki more about the Franciscan values and mission of Marian University and eventually led to her service on the Board of Trustees and as chair of the Latino Leadership Initiative. Marian launched the Latino Leadership Initiative to provide scholarship resources for deserving Latino students, infuse Latino mentors into central Indiana K-12 schools, teach leadership skills to young Latino leaders, and raise the college-going rate of Latinos across all of central Indiana. “Our goals and efforts are ambitious but that’s what I love about being a part of Marian University and the Latino Leadership Initiative. We are not content making a small impact, we are committed to making large impactful change that moves the needle to change the culture and faces of the future professional workforce in the state of Indiana,” states Kubacki. As Kubacki reflects on her time as a public official, wife, and mother, she continues to remember her past: “I can’t help but to think about my mother who, although she only had a grade school education, taught us what was really important in life. She believed that it was our responsibility as human beings to help others, show respect, and, above all, be kind. I also often think about Sister Norma Rocklage OSF ’60 and her commitment to the underserved communities. I know both of these women would be proud of Marian at this time.” In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Latino Leadership Initiative, Kubacki and her husband, Mike, were co-chairs and presenting sponsors of the 2022 Marian Gala which took place on October 28, 2022. Proceeds from the Gala support a variety of student scholarship needs across campus, including a new fund to support Marian’s growing Latino student population. From migrant camp to public servant to commencement speaker, Rebecca Kubacki continues to lead, serve, and live the American Dream.

Manuela Salazar Executive Director of Latino Leadership

goal has been to transform Marian University into the best option for Latino students to become transformational leaders through an inclusive, welcoming and safe environment, that is rooted in Catholic Franciscan tradition. She has also systematically formed strategic community partnerships, created inter-cultural engagement, recruited students, and has promoted Latino student success. “I’m honored that Marian University has selected me to fill this very important role in their organization,” Salazar said. “Bridging the educational opportunity gap is not only important to Latinos in central Indiana, it is critical if Indianapolis is going to thrive in the coming decade. I’m excited to tap into my experience and network to not only recruit Latino students to Marian, but to provide them with support they need to succeed in college.” Salazar is a native of Colombia, and earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and social communication from the University of Manizales. She also holds a master’s degree in leadership development from Saint Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana. Salazar joined Girl Scouts of Central Indiana in 2016 as Membership Extension Manager of their Hispanic Initiative. She previously served as Chief Communications Officer for Security and Coexistence for the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia. She has also been a reporter, producer and anchor for an international news network in Colombia, and served as digital editor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombia.

2021 Founder’s Classic The Founder’s Classic has been chaired by Tom McNulty and Jamy Brase since the inaugural event in 2019. And, each year, the event honors individuals or a group who helped make the university what it is today. The Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Indiana moved Marian College to Indianapolis in 1937 and laid the foundation of Franciscan sponsorship values that guides Marian University today. This remarkable group of women have ministered to thousands of students throughout the Midwest and beyond. Through the efforts of Tom McNulty and Jamy Brase, and the many sponsors and attendees, the Founder’s Classic raised $165,000 in scholarship support to honor Jack Snyder and the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Indiana. Marian University’s office of Alumni Engagement, led by Jennifer Haire ’94 Waning, Executive Director of Alumni Engagement, implemented an aggressive growth strategy in 2020 to positively impact engagement numbers and giving. The effort focused on the Marian University 6Ts of Alumni Engagement (time, talent, treasure, trust, testimony, ties) , an initiative developed by dearly beloved alumnus Mark Daniel ‘80. Re-imagining and utilizing an effort to better inform the public and the Marian University Alumni Association, the effort has substantially improved awareness of alumni engagement.

Marian University’s Ancilla College started out as Ancilla Domini College, in Donaldson, Indiana, and was sponsored by the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. It was established in 1937 and accredited by the Indiana State Board of Education. Prior to that year, Ancilla functioned as an extension of DePaul University of Chicago under a charter granted to the Poor Handmaids in 1925. July 2021, Marian University opened a new campus location called Marian University’s Ancilla College in honor of the legacy of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.

In July of 2021, the inaugural Ancilla College of Marian University Changing Lives Scholarship Dinner served as the “community coming out party” for the new partnership between Ancilla College and

Marian University. The event was a catalyst to engage community members about the new partnership and secured vital scholarship support to serve future students. The dinner serves several purposes: • Secure financial resources for Ancilla College of Marian University scholarships. • Engage friends and the community to help increase Ancilla College of Marian University’s visibility in the community. • Educate guests on the new partnership that is Ancilla College of Marian University and outline the vision for sustained academic excellence and community service. In February 2021, Joseph Heidt began his new role as the chancellor of Ancilla College of Marian University, where he is the senior administrator responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring staff, faculty, and students while providing direction of the campus, including its intercollegiate athletics and extracurricular programs. Heidt will also work with the Marian University provost in leading, planning, and implementing strong programs of excellence across the college. He will focus on enrollment growth, financial strength, and further build partnerships with the greater community in Donaldson, Indiana, and surrounding counties. Marian University’s St. Joseph’s College is a flexible, two-year, earn and learn program. Students can work while earning their Associates degree. Upon completion of the two-year associate degree, students can either move directly into the workforce or complete their bachelor’s degree at Marian University or another institution. Graduates of Marian University’s Saint Joseph’s College will be guaranteed admission to Marian University for a bachelor’s degree at a special tuition rate.

Earn and Learn What does it mean to earn and learn? It means a student that wants to fulfill their dream, no longer has to choose between work and college after graduating from high school. No more guessing—or hoping—if the classes taken in college are relevant to the workforce. Our program guides students through a clearly outlined curriculum, teaching them the skills that employers value, as well as including relevant industry- specific skills that prepare them for their desired dream career. Our class schedules allow students to work while earning their associate degree, and we connect them with local employers, for paid work experience that is relevant to their coursework.

July 2021 — June 2022 Funds Raised

$730,000

“We are committed to providing a unique earn and learn, two-year college option for students in Indianapolis and surrounding communities,” Daniel J.
