Marian University’s Ancilla College started out as Ancilla Domini College, in Donaldson, Indiana, and was sponsored by the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. It was established in 1937 and accredited by the Indiana State Board of Education. Prior to that year, Ancilla functioned as an extension of DePaul University of Chicago under a charter granted to the Poor Handmaids in 1925. July 2021, Marian University opened a new campus location called Marian University’s Ancilla College in honor of the legacy of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.

In July of 2021, the inaugural Ancilla College of Marian University Changing Lives Scholarship Dinner served as the “community coming out party” for the new partnership between Ancilla College and
Marian University. The event was a catalyst to engage community members about the new partnership and secured vital scholarship support to serve future students. The dinner serves several purposes: • Secure financial resources for Ancilla College of Marian University scholarships. • Engage friends and the community to help increase Ancilla College of Marian University’s visibility in the community. • Educate guests on the new partnership that is Ancilla College of Marian University and outline the vision for sustained academic excellence and community service. In February 2021, Joseph Heidt began his new role as the chancellor of Ancilla College of Marian University, where he is the senior administrator responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring staff, faculty, and students while providing direction of the campus, including its intercollegiate athletics and extracurricular programs. Heidt will also work with the Marian University provost in leading, planning, and implementing strong programs of excellence across the college. He will focus on enrollment growth, financial strength, and further build partnerships with the greater community in Donaldson, Indiana, and surrounding counties.
