F or years Black scholars have been studying the meaning, cultural impact and social tenacity of Black dance. Despite defensi- ble evidence of Black dance culture’s influ- ence on American society – its function to the identifiable continuity for passing on tradition, both classical and contemporary – these findings can oftentimes go relatively underdiscovered by main- stream dance researchers seeking to establish numer- ical evidence in dance’s economic benefits. Through approaching what extant literature has provided us
