By Angela Holt This year's final event of the summer season, The Luau, was held on August 31. Since the Club would be closing for the next few weeks, everyone came out to bid farewell. Omar Baker entertained to a crowd of 99 Members and guests. The fan favorite singer kept us on our feet all night. Pam decorated the Club with the help of Maritza and it was indeed a Polynesian feast for the eyes. Many reciprocal Members joined us that night and clearly loved the dancing. We expect to see more of them.

We’re excited to begin a terrific new Season of boating activities at MIYC! With so many Members arriving mid- month or later, we’ve moved Boaters Night with Bob McConville from its usual night to Thursday, October 24, the night after our Sunset Cruise. Also, if you are on the Island, you won’t want to miss our Day Cruise to the beautiful Naples Yacht Club on Monday, October 7. Then next month, in addition to the usual monthly Boating Events, we’re looking forward to our Extended Cruise to Key West. Kelly Wentworth has jumped in to help Peggy Frazier and Jim Marr with planning this event. This will be our best Key West trip ever, filled with great activities, dinners and social activities with MIYC friends! Through the diligence and great work of Dwyn von Bereghy, we had a very successful launch of our Youth Sailing Program this summer and we’re looking forward to adding adult classes this Season to take the program even higher. I also want to thank Geoff Walker for his yeoman’s efforts in getting our big March Extended Cruise in the

MIYC Member Events By Angela Holt

Welcome to our upcoming season of fun at the Yacht Club. The summer months brought us dances, games, karaoke and Latin dancing. Ninety-nine members and guests enjoyed the luau on Labor Day weekend. Fan favorite, Omar Baker began and ended our summer season with his exciting music and dance steps. We'll see more of Omar in the coming months. So here we are at the start of our 2019-2020 calendar of events. The Member Events Committee along with Chef Bob and Pam have worked hard to bring you a new year of fun activities. Thank you to Vicki Bretthauer for maintaining the club calendar, Carol Comeaux and Pam for sending the enticing eblasts; and Linda Marr for featuring our events in Anchor Lines. AND, let's not forget our Member Events Committee who rises to every occasion with ideas, directions and prizes. If you would like to be part of the event- planning action, reach out to me or to a committee member. Or, just show up at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4th when we meet at the Club! Be ready to roll up your sleeves! The evening of October 4th, we will have Oktoberfest entrees so expect brats and beer. Now that 50 years have passed since Woodstock captured the imagination of an entire generation, we

will celebrate the event at the Yacht Club. There will be dinner and dancing in the courtyard with a fun menu which includes Alice B. Toklas brownies. Dress the part or just come dressed casually. Nevada will provide the music, but we need you for the fun. October 26 th is our first Signature Event of the

Marco Island Yacht Club Sailing Center With the beginning of a new fiscal year for the Yacht Club, our Sailing Center is off to a great start! We have begun High School Sailing with 9 students thus far participating. They will be sailing twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays with a few Saturdays thrown in. We also have firmed up the Adult Sailing Program which will begin in January. The class will be taught by Terry Naylon, a US Sailing Certified Instructor, assisted by Henry Stanley and Scott Kiley. Classes will be held on Thursday nights for 6 weeks. As we get closer, I will send out registration forms to Members. We will participate in the Marco Island Christmas Street Parade, promoting our Sailing Center. We will have students walk with our float throwing out candy. It will be a great way to get our program out to the community!

Chairman’s Report

I hope you are ready! We’ve had a busy summer, and we were busy during our September shutdown sprucing up the Club. And we are geared up for another great year at the Club! The summer has been busy with both member participation and local reciprocals visiting the Club. We had a number of great events during the summer. And, a number of reciprocal guests using the Club this summer have let us know that they appreciate coming to the Club to dine and enjoy a great evening with friends. The staff were very busy during our two-week shutdown in September. They completed the annual deep cleaning of the kitchens. All dishware and silverware were counted, and new items ordered to replace chipped or worn pieces. All the woodwork and chairs were touched up and a number of walls repainted. Floors in the lower and upper foyers and the burgee bar were deep cleaned. Carpets upstairs and down were also cleaned. And a number of maintenance items inside and out were taken care of. We also completed installation of our new server system, updated our computer security and installed a number of upgraded terminals. This has been a big project and positions us for continued growth and system capability. Look for an update on this in the near future. Our event calendar for the coming year is also packed with special activities and parties. We have October Fest games during Happy Hour on the 4 th of October and Dancing Under the Stars on the 12 th . One of our 2020 signature events…” Roaring 20’s

Back to Marco” …will be he l d on t he 26 th o f October. The Club will be decorated as a Speak Easy, and I am reliably informed you will need a password for entry. Look for more details on this event. I know it will be one to remember! We have also been working on our project to develop slips on the North side of the Club. We have named the project “RiverSide Marina”, and you have been

Dave Everitt Chairman

receiving updates about various aspects of the project for the past couple of months. We have a summary review of the project scheduled for the November membership meeting. I encourage you to review the material we have been providing in the updates, and make sure your questions are answered, either by sending me an email, or coming to the November meeting and participating in the discussion. We are looking forward to all of you returning this fall. We have a lot of activities and special events in store throughout the year. And, I’ll see you at the Club! Dave Everitt

The Riverside Marina Project

This is the most current column about the Riverside Marina Project. Previous columns can be found on the Club website under MEMBER CENTRAL and then the KEY DOCUMENTS tab. Riverside Marina Project Revenue Projections September 29, 2019 Dear MIYC Members, In the previous update, we reviewed costs associated with the Marina Project. This update covers the revenue streams we project. Revenue Streams: • Wet Slip Member Deposits • Marina Operating Fees from Wet Slip Members • Fees from leasing Club-owned slips and our transient operations • Wet Slip Membership Annual Club Dues As noted previously, a prospective Wet Slip Member will gain exclusive access to a Riverside Marina slip by paying a refundable deposit. This approach is similar to other marinas, notably Hamilton Harbor in Naples. The value of the deposit is determined by market values of similar sized slips in the local market area. The data presented in Table 1 indicates the deposit value of each slip, the projected number of deposits anticipated and the total amount of deposits from Wet Slip Memberships.

Table 1. Wet Slip Deposit Projections

In the initial phase of the project, a prospective Wet Slip Member will pay 10% of the deposit value into an escrow account. An additional 20% may be required as part of the construction funding plan on which interest will be paid. Final payment will be due upon completion of the Marina. During the construction phase the prospective Wet Slip Member will have access to the Club. When the Wet Slip Member no longer needs their slip and wishes to terminate, they will receive 90% of the deposit that a new Wet Slip Member pays for their slip. That will terminate their Wet Slip Membership, but they may still maintain Club Membership in another category, such as Full Member. Wet Slip Members will pay an operating fee to offset costs of operating the Marina. Operating costs include labor and related taxes, maintenance, utilities, general & administrative costs, and taxes. Annual projected operating costs are approximately $200,000, based on the above items. The operating assessment will be based on the linear proportion of dock space each slip represents in the marina. The operating assessments will recover the annual operating costs for the Marina except for those slips retained by the Club. The current analysis projects recovering 80% of the operating costs, or approximately $160,000, through the operating assessments, as eight slips will be retained by the Club. Operating assessments are expected to be billed quarterly. (Continued on next page)

Marco Island Yacht Club

" 13

Riverside Marina Project - continued Wet Slip Members will have the ability to lease out their slips when they are not using them. The lease will be handled by the Club, and the rate will be set by the Club. The rate is comparable to the rate used at MIMA and other marinas in the area. The Club will take a management fee from lease proceeds. In addition, the Club will be able to lease the slips it retains. And, the Club will have the ability to generate some income from transients. In all three of these examples, an assumed occupancy rate is applied to calculate Club revenue. The Project has made a conservative projection for these revenue streams. The projection totals approximately $64,000 annually from lease management fees, lease revenue and transient revenue. There is certainly upside opportunity for revenue in these categories based on overall transient and seasonal demand for the slips. Finally, every Wet Slip Member will have annual MIYC Dues added to the operating assessment. The dues rate will be equivalent to a Full Member. For 2020, the annual dues rate is $4,600 plus $300 in capital assessment. For the project analysis, we have assumed four of the nineteen Wet Slip Memberships will be transferred from current MIYC membership rolls. The net number of additional dues paid by new Wet Slip Members will be $73,500. Table 5 summarizes one-time and annual revenue projections for the Project that would accrue to the Club. The one- time revenue projection funds the development of the project and associated start-up costs. The annual cost and revenue projections reflect the current estimate of expenses and revenue based on the assumptions noted above. Table 5. Riverside Marina Revenue Projections

The next update will combine the cost estimates and the revenue estimates and reflect the construction and other related costs to present a pro-forma financial projection for the project. The combined cost and revenue projections do indicate we can build and operate a marina which supports continued membership growth and provides a financial foundation necessary for the ongoing vitality of our Club. Using Reciprocals During the month of September, Chef Bob, Pam and the Staff worked tirelessly to spruce up the Club. Everything throughout the building was cleaned, painted and just made more gorgeous! A few Members helped, too! Members were encouraged to use reciprocals during the three weeks the Club was closed. The group pictured here chose to travel to Hamilton Harbor for lunch. L-R: Judy Hamilton, Jeff Comeaux, Lauri Kalanges, Carol Comeaux and Craig Seelman.

We always love new Members coming to us with a boat close by! Janet and Dick Carpenter, former Social Members, are coming back to us as Equity Members this Fall thanks to Members Alice & Tom Jobe and Belle Leunig, neighbors of the Carpenters. (Continued on next page) This is my favorite part of the column, to welcome all of our new Members!

1969…50 years ago…Hurricane Camille, Woodstock, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the Moon Landing, Stonewall, the Beatles Last Public Performance, the 747 launches and the first artificial heart transplant happens in Houston…wow…that sure was a heckuva year. My memory of that time involves Marco Island! Christmas-New Year of 1968-69 my folks and I drove to Florida from Illinois and spent time in Ft. Lauderdale and Key West. While in Key West we saw Truman walking down the street. But the thing I now giggle about is, while on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, a man walked up and said, “How would you like to go to a Polynesian Dinner tonight and learn about a place called Marco Island?” My folks said, “Ok.” We went to the dinner and saw pictures of what is now the Marriott, many different model homes, a golf course, etc. We didn’t go visit Marco at that time, but less than 30 years later, Neil and I owned a place on Marco and joined the Yacht Club. I love going over to the Marco Island Historical Museum and looking at those pictures from that era. For Members who left us around Easter, you need to be acquainted with our new dining program! It is called FLA-Mingle thanks to our own Henry Stanley and our Dining Manager Pam Dorr. It is a revised Open Table Concept where you make a reservation to sit at the FLA- Mingle Table so you can meet other Members. Yes, you do still need a reservation, and we will operate it at Dinner, Lunch and Sunday Brunch. Again, you do need a reservation especially on a Friday Night. On Fridays we may even have two seatings for the table depending upon demand - 6:45pm and 7:30pm. Also, remember, the Member Recruiting Member Program is still in effect and this is the best way for us to get new Members! Make sure that new Members put your name in the REFERRED BY section of the application. As you know, the favorite part of this column for me is introducing all the new and returning Members to our Club. I am listing all the new Members we gained in August-September timeframe. For all you folks who have been away, I am recapping all the new Members from May through July, too, so that you know to be on the ‘lookout’ to introduce yourselves to all the new faces at our Club!

using their reciprocal privileges with FCYC even attending the FCYC July Event! Kelley also was helping to get new Members for the Club on the Friday Night of the week they joined! Kelley said she didn’t want to be introduced as the Club’s newest Member for long! Jan and Jim Rich (referred by the Everitts) and Debra and Bill Schroeder (referred back to the Club by the Rosenbergs) both re-joined the Club as Full Members! Please welcome them back to our great boating community! Rita and Werner Allgayer had been visiting us as reciprocals from Treviso Bay and mentioned that they used to be Members. We did a Board Exchange Offer with them and they have joined us every Friday Night! Dr. Michael Israel moved his boat to MIMA and then had dinner with the Sunset Cruise Group on Wednesday evening. (Yes, the cruise group that didn’t take a cruise.) He then joined the Club as a MIMA Full Member. He will be back with return in October. Welcome Paula and Robert Fesik to the Club as Summer Members. They are looking forward to participating in our Summer activities! So, anyone who thinks that the summer was calm, is WRONG! Cynthia, Pam, Tina and Elaine kept busy talking to prospective members about our great Club. Please remember to wear your nametags AND remember to make reservations for all events and dining. It so helps the Staff to be able to have the appropriate number of servers available. Have you updated your bio yet on the website? Bios are in the roster section of the website. We really would like to have as many bios as possible on the website! Just click on the pencil in the upper corner to update any and all of your information! We do like you to keep your preferred address as your primary address on the roster just in case we need to send you information. Vicki Bretthauer (for Co-Chair Kathy Caruso, too)

Vice Commodore

Marco Island Yacht Club’s “flotilla” is developing into a sound cruising fleet of 35 to 40 boats with crews capable of extended cruising in Florida. A number of our members already are seasoned cruisers, but others tend to be a bit nervous about heading offshore. Preparation and practice lead to confidence. Preparation includes properly equipping the boat and organizing important items, such as spare parts, so they are in logical and accessible places on board. Even when cruising locally or on short trips, basics such as up-to-date safety items, first aid kits, extra engine oil, transmission fluid, alternator belts, oil and fuel filters, water and bilge pumps, light bulbs, etc., are important to have aboard. If you’re heading out for longer cruises, it’s smart to consider spare starters, alternators, toilet rebuild kits, radios, several water and bilge pumps, etc. Finding spare parts in far away places can be difficult, but you usually can find people to help install.

Practice refers to u s i n g t h e b o a t , becoming familiar with its capabilities and its idiosyncrasies. Buddy boating – joining with other yacht club boats for trip planning and mutual destinations – provides an extra level of confidence building. I’m hoping to

Seas the day with MIYC . . . Are you ready to cruise - eat - talk - laugh - smile - and have a good time?

MIYC Day Cruises are to destinations that are nearby and provide the opportunity to join Members on their boats for a scenic cruise and lunch. The Yachts enjoy wildlife views, playful dolphins, and a beautiful view of our Island paradise as well as spectacular homes. MIYC Extended Cruises are scheduled so that you can participate in part or all of the itinerary. Land Cruisers are welcome to join us by car or ride along on a vessel and we will arrange for hotel accommodations either at the marina or nearby. Some boaters also prefer to stay on shore. The availability of slips, particularly during the season, is always an issue so make your reservations (or just let us know that you are interested so we can keep you informed about the latest plans) now by clicking frazier@chartermi.net or calling 906 227 7625 so you don't miss the fun! We will be doing a raft up to learn new anchoring techniques, doing our Funtastic trip to Key West, as well as opportunities close by at the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club, the Naples Yacht Club, and Pelican Isle Yacht Club. Also on the schedule is our most popular trip to South

Seas and the surrounding areas such as ‘Tween Waters, Useppa, and Cabbage Key. Our Bahamas trip includes the option of taking your own boat or going with the group by air to the Bahamas where we will charter 51' luxury yachts with assigned Captains and sail short trips to lovely destinations in the beautiful Abacos. In April 2020 we will return to incredible Boca Grande and plans are in the works for a cruise to the Sarasota area as well. All Full Members are invited to join the fun and put new life and laughter into your time on the water! If you have not cruised in this area before you will be able to learn from experienced cruisers and have a relaxing trip. We are on our way to amazing boating adventures next season! We hope the schedule for Extended and Day Cruises inspires you to hop aboard and fall in love with boating at the MIYC. It is amazing where our boats can take us in this destination where winter never visits - at least for very long! Trips like this one epitomize what the MIYC is all about...great camaraderie, new friends, great food, and the opportunity to share our love of boating....join the fun!

MIYC Fishing Club Thursday, October 24 th 11:30am

As the water starts to cool, we’re in a transition period for fishing in the Gulf. Starting in October, we’ll target new fish offshore such as kingfish, red grouper, and Spanish mackerel. Backwater we’ll be looking for snook, speckled trout and red fish. Since we have a lot of new Members, we will reassess experience levels and provide training and coaching where needed. The Club has a backwater fishing trip planned for late October with offshore trips planned in November. Come to our next Fishing Club Meeting on Thursday, October 17th at 11:30 am when we will flesh out these plans and also discuss another international fishing trip for January or February. We’re considering Cabo San Lucas or Guatemala. If you are interested in fishing and would like to join the Fishing Club, please contact me at: comeaux411@icloud.com or call me at 847-951-3400. House & Staff

Can you believe summer is over? It sure is nice to see some of our members returning to Marco Island. This summer we had some great events for our year- round members and reciprocals. In addition, we booked a few banquets which made this the busiest summer the Club has seen. Now the Staff is gearing up for another busy season. The Club closed on Sunday, September 1 st and reopened on Thursday, September 19 th . During our two and one-half week closing a tremendous amount of work was performed to prepare us for what we expect to be our greatest season ever. The equipment in both kitchens and prep areas were scrubbed and the floors were stripped and painted. The freight elevator floor, walls and dock were cleaned and painted by Chef. He even painted the prep area walls and doors. Matt and Chef replaced all the racks in the cooler which was much needed. All the carpets were steamed cleaned.

and painted the walls. It looks so much cleaner and brighter. Pam did not have enough to do so Pam, Mary McKeown and Ma r i t za decided to change the fabric on the cornices around the Harbour Room. Pam and Maritza also repainted all the lanai tables and chairs upstairs and downstairs. All

Robert J DeFeo

the chair seats in both the Harbour Room and Dockside Lounge along with the lanai cushions have all been cleaned. Several other tasks were completed but these are the major activities that were accomplished during our September closing. We will continue to work on completing some outstanding tasks. A special thanks to Marla, Tina, Kathy, Bridgett, Chef Bob, Matt, Nicolas, Robert, Steve and Carlos for their hard work. Please give a huge thank you to PAM and MARITZA who worked endlessly the entire time we were closed. The amount of work they accomplished was amazing to say the least. Their dedication and hard work are surely appreciated. Please welcome our two new employees, Alex Prochl as a server/bartender and Matt Vizer as a cook. Also, we are in the process of hiring a few more employees before the first of the year. The Club hours of operation for October will be lunch on Thursday and Friday, dinner Wednesday through Saturday and Sunday Brunch. As more members return, we will expand the hours of operation. Remember when lunch or dinner is being served in the Dockside Lounge the Burgee Bar is always available for drinks or dining. The Burgee Bar will officially open in January, Wednesday through Saturday with extended hours and menu. We’re looking forward to another exciting and profitable year. See you at the Club! The main entrance floor and the marble floor in the Harbour Room were professionally refurbished and sealed. Pam, Maritza, Marla, Kathy, Bridgett and Tina cleaned and inventoried every piece of dinnerware and glassware. The Dockside Bar was completely stripped, cleaned and polished. The Dockside Lounge walls, columns and doors were stained and polished. All the
