maureen, a morgantown native, met robert, originally from virginia beach , Virginia, in the spring of 2015 when the two worked together. A surprise proposal three years later was almost spoiled by the bride’s brother, who mentioned in passing that the groom called their dad that day. The bride was suspicious and returned home that evening to find Robert, cocktail in hand, waiting to take her out for a nice dinner. She changed her clothes and emerged to find Robert on one knee with the ring in his hand. Maureen accepted Robert’s proposal, and the couple chose a spring wedding. For her big day, the bride wore a blush-colored gown with a ruched bodice and a sweetheart neckline, featuring a dramatic drop-waisted rosette skirt. She wore her great aunt’s wedding band as well as a garter that was fashioned with lace from her mother’s wedding gown and a piece of her grandmother’s favorite sweater. She was escorted by her father and exchanged traditional vows with Robert before joining him and his children for a unity ceremony. At the reception, guests enjoyed a seated dinner of chicken George, steak with Madeira sauce, or a vegetarian option. The wedding cake was created by the business of the mother of the bride— The Cupcakerie in Morgantown—and featured a two-tiered vanilla cake with white fondant and several varieties of cupcakes with flavors like blueberry lemon, lime margarita, maple bacon, gold n’ blueberry, and loco cocoa. The night was full of dancing until a traditional, West Virginia ending marked by a group rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The couple departed for a wedding trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, before returning to their home in Annapolis, Maryland, where Maureen works as a beauty division manager for Nordstrom and Robert works as a security specialist.
