munity endeavours and also into your neighbour’s pockets to keep their business doors open and a roof over their family’s heads. Support Canada and buy Canadian but even more so support Lambeth and buy Lambethian(?). Now any business that I have not heard from or called on yet, if you need help with marketing, getting your advertising message out into the community, please contact me and I’ll be happy to be of service. Without regular or new clients, we wouldn’t have a magazine, and that would be a shame as so many people let us know how much they enjoy our publication. So, let’s work together and make it a win-win scenario for everyone. You’ll love the results!
Hello Lambeth! Well, I’m happy to announce the Le- gion’s Chili Dinner to raise money for Lambeth’s new “Welcome to Lambeth”
signs was a wonderful success, so much so that they raised approximately $1700+ in funds. I realize Joanne Shields’s cooking is great but really $1700+ raised for chili…wow! On April 1st, the Lambeth Legion reintroduced their Progressive Euchre to be held every Tuesday from 1 to 4 pm, with registration starting at 12:30 pm. I was there playing, and everyone seemed to have one heck of a good time (I know I certainly did and met the nicest people) with most of the players returning the following week for more. Come on – where can you go for all the coffee, tea and homemade cookies for only $5.? Plus, who knew, Randy the Legion’s president, was such a good Euchre partner! And everyone else was such good sports. I’m planning to go every week. I just found out that Lambeth has its very own Marco Polo in Lauren, owner of the Out’n Back food shop, as Lauren just got back from a trip to Iceland. Yup, the same Iceland that recently had volcanoes erupting and pouring lava all over the place. So why not drop into their location, grab a soup and sandwich and ask about her trip? Shop Local! Every dollar you spend at your local pharmacy, grocery store, pizza shop, etc. goes towards Lambeth’s com- Spring into Fur Paws Only Salon Nail Trim Thursdays 10am–1pm $10. No appointment necessary.

519-661-2489, extension 4009 ahopkins@london.ca A Note of Gratitude from Anna Hopkins Our Ward 9 City Councillor
I’d also like to recognize the developers and builders who go the extra mile to hold information sessions and respond to community concerns. Our city is at its best when neighbours, builders, and staff collaborate, compromise, and work together in good faith. Lastly, with Mother’s Day around the corner, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the mothers in our community. Whether you’re celebrating with flowers, a heartfelt card, a meal at her favourite spot, or simply by finishing that project she’s been waiting on, what matters most is time spent together. As always, I welcome your thoughts, questions, and feedback. Please feel free to reach out to me at ahopkins@london.ca or visit www.annahopkins.ca to sign up for my newsletter and stay in the loop. Take care of one another,
As the first buds begin to appear on the trees and spring’s earliest blooms brighten our neighbourhoods, I’m reminded of the strength that comes from renewal—and the incredible resilience of our community. When we come together, we uplift one another, strengthen our shared purpose, and spark inspiration to continue striving for the best possible future. Simply put: we’re stronger together. Ward 9 continues to lead the way in growth across our city. From infill developments and four-units-by-right projects to new subdivisions, change is all around us. The provincial mandate to build 47,000 new units by 2031 has made clear the urgency of increasing housing supply. Most residents I speak with agree – housing is needed, especially deeply affordable housing. I want to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the recent Council meeting regarding the Boler/Byron Baseline zoning application for a six-storey, 62-unit building. Your thoughtful engagement, your patience with the process, and your continued willingness to be involved truly make a difference. Whether you attended meetings, sent emails, or called to share your thoughts, your voice matters. Public participation holds us, as elected officials, accountable—and it shapes better outcomes for everyone.

Beyond the Hearing Test: The Role of Audiologists in Health Care by David Pfingstgraef, M.Cl.Sc., AUD(C) Audiologist May is Hearing Awareness Month – a timely opportunity to spotlight the multifaceted knowledge of audiologists. When people think about the profession, they usually think about hearing tests and hearing aids. However, their scope of practice extends far beyond, encompassing critical aspects of neurological, cognitive, and vestibular health. Detecting More Than Hearing Loss: Audiologists are adept at identifying conditions that may not be immediately apparent. For instance, they can detect signs of tumours such as acoustic neuromas, which may present with certain types of hearing loss or balance disturbances. Through comprehensive auditory assessments, Audiologists can identify problems that need further evaluation, facilitating early diagnosis and intervention. Cognitive Health Monitoring: The interplay between hearing and cognitive function is now well-documented. Audiologists often incorporate cognitive screenings into their assessments, recognizing that untreated hearing loss can contribute to cognitive decline. Tools like Cognivue provide quick, non-invasive checks, enabling audiologists to monitor cognitive health and refer patients for further assessment when necessary .
vestibular function, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop comprehensive treatment plans. Managing Auditory Processing Disorders: Some indivi- duals experience difficulty processing auditory information despite having normal hearing sensitivity. This may occur with some children who have difficulties listening in a classroom setting. Audiologists are trained to assess and manage Auditory Processing Disorders (APD), which can affect communication and comprehension. Through targeted interventions, they help patients improve their auditory processing capabilities. Intraoperative Monitoring and Hearing Conservation: In surgical settings, audiologists contribute by monitoring neural function to prevent auditory nerve damage during procedures. Additionally, they design and implement hearing conservation programs, educating individuals on protecting their hearing in noisy environments and preventing noise-induced hearing loss. A Holistic Approach to Auditory Health: Audiologists’ comprehensive approach to auditory health: underscores their vital role in the broader healthcare land-scape. By addressing not only hearing loss but also cognitive, vestibular, and neuro- logical aspects, they contribute significantly to patients’ overall well-being.
Addressing Balance and Vestibular Disorders: Beyond auditory concerns, audiologists play a pivotal role in assessing, treating and managing balance disorders. The inner ear’s system is integral to maintaining equilibrium, and dysfunctions can lead to dizziness or falls. Audiologists conduct specialized tests to assess HAVING TROUBLE HEARING? Gloria’s Favourite Homemade BBQ Sauces for Victoria Holiday Weekend! Whiskey BBQ Sauce • ¾ cup bourbon whiskey • 4 cloves garlic, minced
Simple Tasty Sauce • 1 ½ cups brown sugar • 1 ½ cups ketchup • ½ cup red wine vinegar • ½ cup water • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce • 2 ½ tablespoons dry mustard • 2 teaspoons of paprika • 2 teaspoons salt • 1 ½ teaspoons black pepper • 2 dashes of hot pepper sauce
• ½ onion, minced • 2 cups of ketchup • ½ cup packed brown sugar
• ¼ cup cider vinegar • ¼ cup tomato paste • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavouring • ½ tablespoon salt • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper • ¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce, or to taste
Gather all ingredients. Combine brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water, and Worcestershire sauce in a blender. Season with mustard, paprika, salt, pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Blend until smooth. Additional Tips: For a more intense flavour and better texture, pour the sauce into a small pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook for 1 minute. Allow to cool before filling into a resealable container. (It will fit exactly into a 32-ounce ketchup bottle). Store in the refrigerator. Cut back on the brown sugar to make it less sweet or add more Worcestershire for a more “steak sauce” appeal.
Combine bourbon, garlic, and onion in a large skillet over medium heat; simmer until onion is translucent, about 10 minutes. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt, black pepper, and hot pepper sauce; bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce.
Did you know that WUUST is a fermented liquid condiment invented by pharmacists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins in the city of Worcester in Worcestershire, England, during the first half of the 19th century? The inventors went on to form the company Lea & Perrins. Worcestershire sauce has been a generic term since 1876, when the High Court of Justice ruled that Lea & Perrins did not own a trademark for the name “Worcestershire”. Source: Wikipedia

Celebrating 48 Years of Love and Resilience: The Story of Our Family- Owned Business – Tropical Sunrooms by Tina Sawatzky As we celebrate our 48th anniversary this March, we reflect on the journey that has brought us here. Dave and I (Tina) were very young when we found each other, and together we have built not only a family but a thriving business. Our two sons, Shawn and David, have grown up alongside our company, becoming integral parts of its success. Established in March 1989, our family-owned company started with nothing more than an opportunity and a strong work ethic. Dave and I worked tirelessly, often with just a couple of salespersons and installation crews, doing much of the work ourselves. From setting up and working long days at homeshows to managing daily operations, our dedication was unwavering. As our boys grew older, they became deeply involved in the business. Shawn took on the responsibility of handling all our permit work, while David excelled as a salesperson. Together, we navigated the challenges of the 90s, including the introduction of the GST by the Federal government, and more recently, the global pressures brought on by the pandemic. Our company specializes in the sales and installation of sunrooms, windows, and doors. We provide a full-scale service from start to finish, beginning with 3D drawings to give a clear and beautiful start to your project. We handle everything from obtaining permits to the complete installation of your sunroom, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience for our clients. Since joining Sunspace Sunrooms as a branded dealer in 2016, we have consistently been recognized for our excellence. We have proudly won the Dealer of the Year award every year from 2016 to 2023, along with the Most Progressive Dealer award each year. These accolades reflect our commitment to quality and innovation in our industry. Looking to the future, we are committed to helping and completing as many projects as possible, backed by the strong support of Sunspace Sunrooms, our manufacturer. As a 100% Canadian-made company, we take pride in our heritage and the quality of our products. The satisfaction of our past clients fuels our desire to move forward with even more vigor, continuing to deliver exceptional service and craftsmanship. Through it all, our company has demonstrated remarkable resilience. We have weathered national and global challenges, proving that with hard work and family support, we can withstand
anything. As we look to the future, we remain committed to the values that have guided us from the beginning: opportunity, hard work, and family.

When cancer is found early, it’s often easier to treat. Get changes checked sooner rather than later. That change to your body might be nothing, but it might be serious. Always see a doctor if there are any changes to how you’re feeling or you Screening tests help find some types of cancer before you have any symptoms. It’s important to have these tests even if you feel fine and you have a healthy lifestyle. They’re part of your regular medical care. have new physical symptoms. What are screening tests? If you’re in a certain age or population group in Canada, you can go for regular screening tests that can help find breast, cervical and colorectal cancer at such an early stage that you won’t have noticed that anything is wrong. Some screening tests can even help prevent cancer by finding changes in your body that would become cancer if they weren’t treated.
How do I know if I should get screened? Talk to your doctor to learn more about your risk of cancer and what screening tests you should have. Be sure to mention any family history of cancer. That’s a Wrap on the 2024/25 Lambeth Minor Hockey Season! by the Minor Hockey Association of Lambeth What a fantastic year it’s been for Lambeth Minor Hockey! Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the Nick Suzuki U7 Jamboree returned bigger and better for its second year. On March 29, 310 young players from across Southwestern Ontario and the GTA laced up their skates and hit the ice in Lambeth, proudly hosted once again by the Minor Hockey Association of Lambeth. A total of 28 teams, made up of enthusiastic mini-hockey players aged 4 to 7, took to the rink to showcase the skills they’ve developed throughout the season. The ice was divided into two fast-paced playing areas, creating non-stop action that kept players engaged and families cheering from the stands. Off the ice, the event was just as exciting. Families enjoyed breakfast and lunch, browsed local vendors, and checked out an impressive Nick Suzuki memorabilia display and sale. Events like this do more than bring the community together—they play a crucial role in supporting skill development programs within the organization and help introduce the game to the youngest members of our community. A huge thank you goes out to the Lambeth Lions Club and all the volunteers who helped make the day such a success – especially those who kept players and fans well-fed and energized! Looking ahead, the landscape of minor hockey is evolving. With the Ontario Hockey Federation’s decision to remove residential boundaries for U10 and above beginning next season, there are now even more opportunities for Lambeth players to pursue higher levels of hockey. As the game continues to grow and change, Lambeth Minor Hockey is committed to staying ahead of the curve to provide the best experience possible for our athletes and their families. We’re incredibly proud of all our Lambeth teams for their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship this season. As always, we’ll be recognizing player achievements and celebrating our incredible volunteers during the MHAL Annual General Meeting this May.
Registration for the 2025/26 season opens in mid-May, following our Rep team tryouts. Lambeth Minor Hockey offers both competitive and recreational programs for boys and girls aged 4 to 21. Interested in getting your player on the ice? Reach out to us at info@lambethminorhockey.com. Here’s to another great season—see you at the rink!

Lawn Bowling – The Best Kept Secret in Lambeth
leading to an escape from the pressures of everyday life. The repetitive nature of the athlete’s delivery induces a state of flow where the mind is married to the moment. All is well in the world. That is, until the jack is moved by an opposition bowl and one’s vision of the perfect end comes to nought. Unlike curling where the house remains stationary, the target jack in lawn bowling can be re-positioned as the end unfolds. This wrinkle adds another intriguing dimension to the game. However, the game is much more than the sum of its com- petitive parts. It is inherently social, fostering interaction and camaraderie among participants. The jitney format of play allows those on hand to be placed on different teams each evening. If any of this sounds enticing, please join us for our free National Bowls Day Open House planned for Saturday, June 7th from 2 to 4 pm at our location at 4326 Colonel Talbot Road. We are on the south-east corner of Wharncliffe Road (Main Street) and Colonel Talbot Road in Lambeth. Just wear flat-soled shoes and comfortable clothes and be prepared to roll a few bowls with the guidance of our certified coaches. We here at the Lambeth Lawn Bowling Club have been welcoming new members for well over 100 years. We would love for you to join us! Contact us at LambethLawnBowling@gmail.com and check out our website at lambethlbc.ca for more information about upcoming training sessions. We look forward to meeting you on the green!
by Rory Munro, President, Lambeth Lawn Bowling Club The sun is setting gently in the western sky and the mid-summer day’s last rays glint across the manicured greens of the Lambeth Lawn Bowling Club. For the forty-some-odd members gathered there for camaraderie and competition, sanctuary is at hand. They have come to the club as they do three evenings a week from early May to mid-September to enjoy the benefits of the low-impact physical activity of rolling biased balls, known as bowls, down verdant greens toward a target ball known as a jack. This, my friends, is lawn bowling. The game has been traced back some 5,000 years to ancient Egypt. Evidence suggests it was played in Rome and Greece at the height of their civilizations. It was in the Middle Ages in Britain when lawn bowling morphed into a closer version of the game which is played today. Today, lawn bowling provides healthy, gentle exercise for men and women of all ages in a relaxed, social environment. Not unlike its winter cousin curling, the game calls for flexibility, balance, hand-eye coordination and an acquired sense of muscle memory. As in golf, the game reveals one’s character through skill, strategy and self-control. The strategic nature of the game cannot be overemphasized. As curling has been referred to as “chess on ice”, lawn bowling can be likened to “chess on grass”. The game’s demand of total focus and concentration offers the players a sense of mindfulness
