Gloria’s Favourite Homemade BBQ Sauces for Victoria Holiday Weekend! Whiskey BBQ Sauce • ¾ cup bourbon whiskey • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Simple Tasty Sauce • 1 ½ cups brown sugar • 1 ½ cups ketchup • ½ cup red wine vinegar • ½ cup water • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce • 2 ½ tablespoons dry mustard • 2 teaspoons of paprika • 2 teaspoons salt • 1 ½ teaspoons black pepper • 2 dashes of hot pepper sauce

• ½ onion, minced • 2 cups of ketchup • ½ cup packed brown sugar

• ¼ cup cider vinegar • ¼ cup tomato paste • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavouring • ½ tablespoon salt • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper • ¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce, or to taste

Gather all ingredients. Combine brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water, and Worcestershire sauce in a blender. Season with mustard, paprika, salt, pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Blend until smooth. Additional Tips: For a more intense flavour and better texture, pour the sauce into a small pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook for 1 minute. Allow to cool before filling into a resealable container. (It will fit exactly into a 32-ounce ketchup bottle). Store in the refrigerator. Cut back on the brown sugar to make it less sweet or add more Worcestershire for a more “steak sauce” appeal.

Combine bourbon, garlic, and onion in a large skillet over medium heat; simmer until onion is translucent, about 10 minutes. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt, black pepper, and hot pepper sauce; bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce.

Did you know that WUUST is a fermented liquid condiment invented by pharmacists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins in the city of Worcester in Worcestershire, England, during the first half of the 19th century? The inventors went on to form the company Lea & Perrins. Worcestershire sauce has been a generic term since 1876, when the High Court of Justice ruled that Lea & Perrins did not own a trademark for the name “Worcestershire”. Source: Wikipedia
