Dementia Capable Southern Arizona (DCSA) strives to foster a compassionate, inclusive community where individuals with dementia can connect, thrive, and receive the support they need. Anchored at PCOA, DCSA works to deepen the community’s understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Options Counseling Navigating the dementia journey can be overwhelming. The wide array of resources and services can feel overwhelming. Options Counselors are here to support and guide you. Options Counseling Services include: • A personalized approach • Unbiased information • Memory screenings • Resources and referrals for your needs • Long- and short-term planning • Opportunities for community connection Options Counselors meet you where you are–in person, via phone, or online–to walk alongside you and your family and support you in your dementia journey. Memory Cafés A Memory Café provides a supportive space for individuals living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or mild cognitive impairment, along with their families and caregivers. Each café offers unique activities such as live music, art, or relaxed socializing, creating a safe environment for connection. Memory cafés are free and open to all. To find a memory café near you, visit: memorycafes.pcoa.org Community Education DCSA’s Community Education program aims to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and related dementias (ADRD), reduce stigma, and foster a dementia-friendly community. Presentations are available in English and Spanish, both in person and virtually. Topics include: • Dementia Friends Information Session: Understanding dementia and promoting a dementia-friendly mindset for all community members (ages 13+). • Dementia 101: Learn about dementia, its signs, and how to approach memory concerns. • Memory Loss: Progression, Behaviors, and Interventions: A two-part series for caregivers covering brain changes, care strategies, and activity planning.
