with a smaller competition field, that also pays well. “I’m super happy that I get to run,” Riley said. “I know it was a deal breaker for a couple of girls last year because it pays so much, so I’m really happy that I have the opportunity at an extra run that pays so much.” Riley’s family, including her parents, in-laws, and brother’s family, was able to be in Waco to watch her performance and celebrate her success — something her parents had not been able to do for some time due to superstition. Riley had some tough luck at a couple rodeos her parents got to watch during the year, so her parents, being very superstitious, quit watching Riley’s runs in real-time. They would watch videos, or rewind the TV to watch after she ran. Her dad even joked that they were going to stay in the car at Waco, and let her tell them how it went after she ran. They did, however, sit in the stands to watch live and in person in Waco, and Riley was glad to break that superstition. However, Riley was raised to be superstitious as well — so you will see nothing less than eight braids in Money’s mane when the pair comes down the alley. For now Riley is going to give Money some time off, and they will start back up again in January. Riley has set herself up well for the 2023 rodeo season, and is going to use her momentum from the Texas

“My goal coming into those is to capitalize at those so that I have a better chance set up for next year,” Outhier said. “There’s a lot of fun things coming up, especially in these winter months, that I really enjoy.” Outhier has a goal to earn another qualification to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming for the Texas A&M Aggies. She is currently tied for 7th in the NIRA Southern Region breakaway standings after the completion of the first semester. If all goes as planned, Outhier is looking to earn her first ticket to the National Finals Breakaway Roping. But she doesn’t want to stop there — she has her eyes set on a gold buckle.
