DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

The Design and Technology department is a vibrant hub of activity with boys of all ages able to engage in activities that take them well beyond the curriculum. Clubs, societies, trips, expeditions and workshop sessions are regularly run and very well attended.

Engineers Club In Engineers Club, students from Years 8-10 learn to use different engineering processes through making products. The boys are given a design task and work in teams to problem solve and create their products according to certain criteria. Along the way they learn engineering workshop skills and an in-depth knowledge of 3D CAD and 3D printing. Currently, they are designing a bluetooth speaker system and throughout this project will also gain knowledge of electrical components that incorporate it. ‘I joined Engineers Club because of the opportunities that are available.’ Jeremie Cohen, Year 8 ‘We can use the skills we like best such as 3D printing.’ Oisin Hetherington, Year 8 ‘We get to use different tools that we wouldn’t necessarily use in normal D&T lessons.’ Ned Wildgoose Bulloch, Year 9 Community service in DT DCDT is a society where the aim is to design and make different projects to benefit the staff, students and community at the college. ‘The students work on a given design- and-make project based on the needs of individuals, interviewing clients, designing, developing and making a final product.
