LAKE OVERHOLSER BOATHOUSE
If you’re looking for another outdoor adventure immersed in nature, Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge on the west side of OKC features a thousand acres of hiking, fishing, bird watching and exploring. Whitetail deer, beaver, egrets, cormorants and hundreds of species of migratory birds and waterfowl move through Stinchcomb regularly. Connected to Stinchcomb via a trail is the Lake Overholser Boathouse , which features a climbing wall, standup paddleboard and kayak rentals onsite. Lake Hefner’s expansive trails are perfect for biking, running, in-line skating or a casual walk to enjoy a beautiful Oklahoma sunset. While you’re there, stop by and take a photo at the picturesque lighthouse on the east side of the lake (make sure to use #SeeOKC for all your awesome Instagram pictures). If you’d rather trade quiet trails and peaceful water for adrenaline-pumping whitewater, head downtown. Situated along the Oklahoma River is RIVERSPORT , which includes surfing, standup paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, snow skiing (yes, you read that right), ziplines and the world- renowned RIVERSPORT Rapids. Featuring Class II-IV whitewater, RIVERSPORT Rapids accommodates various ages and skill levels, but children must be at least eight years old to go whitewater rafting. Additionally, bike and running trails, many of which converge near RIVERSPORT, are open and free to the public. Oklahoma City has a network of 10 interconnected trails that lead to nearly every part of the city, totaling 100 miles of non-motorized trails. An interactive map is available at okc.gov to help you plan your route.
