NO GUILT TRIPS ON THIS TRIP WHY YOU NEED THAT VACATION MORE THAN YOU THINK
The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year. While many Americans spend the last few days before the holidays buying last-minute gifts and ensuring the house is ready for guests, others pack bags for vacation. The kids are out of school for a few weeks, many workplaces slow down at the end of the year, and people just want a break from their day-to-day busyness. However, some people remain home even when they want to visit somewhere new because they’re too stressed about what will happen while they’re away. They may believe their workplace will crumble without them or that they don’t need a break, but we should make a greater effort to break free from these thoughts. I love to travel and never miss opportunities to visit the beach or mountains. Still, like many Americans, I experience vacation guilt whenever I take time for myself. Whenever I return home, I wonder why we do that to ourselves. Vacation can bring so many benefits to our lives. Most of us return with a more effective and intentional mindset because we’re better mentally equipped to tackle any challenge that comes our way. “When you go on vacation to a different environment, your mind goes to different places and develops new ideas.” It’s taken ample time to improve this aspect of my life. I used to feel intense guilt whenever I took time off, but I’ve made a dedicated effort to prioritize vacation time, and I can see how it positively impacts me. Developing this mindset didn’t happen spontaneously, though. One of the biggest challenges we face when planning a vacation is bringing it to fruition. We want to see numerous places, but we will never get there without planning. The first step is finding a date that works for your schedule and blocking it off. Be prepared to say “No” to anything that interferes with your vacation time. No
matter what comes up, you must set workplace boundaries. Our team excels at this. Whenever one of our team members goes on vacation, we tell any clients who interact with them that they are unavailable. This doesn’t mean we leave you out to dry. The rest of the team steps in to help, so if you need anything, just ask! When that individual returns to work, they’ll be fresh and handle things even more effectively. If you’re still on the fence about taking a vacation sometime soon, here’s another thought to keep in mind: When you go on vacation to a different environment, your mind goes to different places and develops new ideas. Your creative thinking skills expand in a way you don’t experience in your everyday environment. These skills can help you grow your business, deal with a nagging problem at home, or become the best version of yourself. Taking a vacation or even just changing your environment is one of the most valuable things you can do for your personal growth. Push past the guilt and take that vacation! I guarantee you won’t regret it when you get home!

The right selection of syllables can change the course of history. As any English teacher or professional editor (or anyone who’s ever confused “they’re,” “there,” or “their”) will tell you, navigating modern English is often chaotic and confounding. In a 2020 blog, Ward Farnsworth of the University of Texas School of Law attempted to explain how it got this way. “English is a language built mostly out of two others. Much of it was created from the language of invaders who came to Britain around 450 AD from Anglia and Saxony (in what we’d now call northern Germany). About 600 years later, the French (Normans) invaded and brought their language with them, too, The ‘Saxon Clincher’ Effect SYLLABLES THAT SHAPE SOCIETY

derived from Latin. The new French competed with Old English, and the eventual outcome was modern
English, built out of both.” Farnsworth’s observation isn’t new. Various speeches by President Abraham Lincoln, largely considered one of the world’s greatest orators,
made excellent use of this mix of languages by understanding that Anglo- Saxon words tend to be direct and words of French origin tend to be a bit more flowery. Lincoln applied these characteristics to create what some
linguistic circles call a “Saxon clincher,” a straightforward conclusion to a more colorfully worded introduction. A Saxon clincher can be employed to gain attention with impactful opening words before driving the point home more simply. According to Farnsworth, Lincoln’s talent for perfecting this approach shines through in this passage from his “House Divided” speech in 1858: Either the opponents of slavery will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become alike lawful in all the States, old as well as new, North as well as South. Did you notice how the first half includes colorful words such as “opponents” and “extinction,” and the final 14 words are simple with one syllable each? That’s the Saxon clincher, and the pathway to a perfect speech, in a nutshell.

Buckle Up for the World’s Strangest Street Signs The Quirkiest Road Warnings Around the Globe
Caution: Signs Ahead May Cause Double-Takes and Giggles
Greenland: Sled Traffic, Seriously Forget freeways! Greenland is a kingdom of glaciers where cars can’t always connect towns. Instead, dog sleds rule. That’s why you’ll see red-triangle signs with a sled silhouette, reminding you that man’s best friend is also man’s best transport. Iceland: Next Exit, Hot Tub Only in Iceland will you see a road sign telling you where to soak. The blue-and-white icon of a head bobbing in water with a thermometer means a hot tub is near. Pair that with pretzel-shaped bakery signs and snorkel-wearing stick figures; suddenly, even stop-and-go traffic feels like a scavenger hunt. Newfoundland: The Moose Means Business Most moose crossing signs just show the animal. But in Gros Morne National Park, Canada, the moose has backup: a mangled car beside it. It’s a graphic reminder that when a one-ton moose meets your bumper, the moose usually wins.
Driving abroad can feel like entering ”The Twilight Zone,” with strange rules, steering wheels on the “wrong” side, and then there are road signs. Some are charming, some are
baffling, and a few might make you laugh so hard you nearly miss your turn.
Australia: Beware the
Bouncing Locals Kangaroos don’t just hang out in the outback. In New South Wales,
where roo collisions are a daily headache in even the most urban neighborhoods, the classic yellow diamond sign featuring a mid-leap kangaroo warns drivers to keep their eyes peeled. Sometimes, the signs are extra-large and include a hotline to call in case of an injured joey.
So, next time you travel, keep your eyes on the road and on the lookout for some wacky signs!
