DEAN’S OVERVIEW

MonaLaw Public Lecture on Human Rights Law and Business Dr. Ramona Biholar, the former Associate Dean of Outreach and CLE, worked in collaboration with the Outreach and CLE Office to organize a highly successful lecture on the intersection of Human Rights Law and Business on 9 March 2023. The lecture delved into the matter of ‘Corporate Criminality in the Caribbean’. The hybrid lecture included participants from diverse locations, locally and inter- nationally. Mr Jeremy Taylor, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions was also in attendance. 9th Annual Mona Law Symposium on Law, Governance and Society The Faculty hosted its 9th Annual Symposium on Law, Governance and Society, 24–25 June 2023 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel and online, under the theme ‘Vision 2030: Towards Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.’ The keynote speaker was Mr. Bruce Golding, the Former Prime Minister of Jamaica. The areas of concentration were: Jamaica… Towards a Republic; Emerging Copyright Issues; Global Health; Financial Crime; AML/CFT Obligations and International Financial Services. The symposium was attended by participants and presenters from local and several overseas territories. Over 100 delegates were present both online and in person on both days. Pro Bono Legal Support Services provided to the Government of Jamaica Dr. Christopher Malcolm provided pro-bono legal support service to the Minis- ter of Justice, the Hon. Mr. Delroy Chuck, to assist in the development of a better established framework for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Jamaica. This was followed by support previously provided, which culminated in the implemen- tation of the Arbitration Act of 2017, which repealed and replaced the Arbitration Act, of 1900. The work with Minister Chuck has been with a view to securing the implementation of a Mediation Act for Jamaica. Dr Malcolm also served in a pro bono capacity as a Member of the State of Emergency Review Tribunal for the Parish of Trelawny. OUTREACH TO THE CARIBBEAN: Dr. Christopher Malcolm provided support for a new programme designed by Justice Winston Anderson and implemented at the University of Guyana, where he served as a Visiting Professor in Arbitration and ADR. He also served as a Senior Technical Team Member under the IMPACT Justice Programme, which drafted what has become the CARICOM Model Law for Arbi- tration. It is currently being reviewed for implementation in Trinidad and Tobago,
