RESEARCH AND GRADUATE ACTIVITY The department was recognized by the faculty at the annual awards ceremony for its outstanding throughput of publications during the 2021–2022 academic year. In order to increase and maintain research and publication output the HOD hosted a seminar with Junior members of staff to sensitize them about the assessment and promotions process. Discussions were held on where to publish. Attempts were made to indicate where synergies between colleagues can boost publication output. The Marine Geology Unit and the Unit for Disaster Studies were re-established to boost research, grantsmanship and publications. To ensure continuity, 2 members of the academic staff will support the unit as co-coordinators.
