comed hundreds of new graduate and undergraduate students for the academic year 2022/2023 in virtual and face-to-face orientation sessions held over the period August 8–31, 2022. Other efforts to support the development students: After a two year break as a result of the pandemic, the UWIVC Winners tour took place August 9–14, 2022. Accompanied by Ms Tamra Thomas, UWIVC Programme Coordinator, two teams Preto Ouro and Rush Alert represented by Dr. Leighton Ellis and Mr. Marvin Richards respectively participated. Dr. Ellis is currently a Lecturer in the faculty of Engineering and also the third place winner of the 2021 UWIVC. Mr. Marvin Richards is a former finalist of the UWIVC as well as a serial entrepreneur and Managing Director of Rush Alert. The Vincent HoSang Entrepreneurship Programme’s ‘Business Founders’ Webi- nar Series was launched on August 25 2022. The first event of the series featured Lifespan CEO, Mrs. Nayanna Williams. The purpose of the Founders Series is to introduce students/faculty to local Entrepreneurs who actually started their business from the ground up. Those persons who assumed all the risk from the beginning and had the inherent vision that they would develop a successful business one day The 2022–23 UWI Venture Competition saw eight bright undergraduate teams making it to the finals which took place on Friday January 27. After all the presen- tations were made and scores tabulated, three teams emerged as the top winners representing various faculties within the University. First Place winner ‘All About Scholarships’ is represented by Delmar Squire from the Faculty of Medical Sci- ences and Keneisha Henry from the Faculty of Science and Technology; Second Place winner ‘Kinky Glide’ represented by Jevaughn Smith, hails from the Faculty of Social Sciences and ‘Dannatinos’ the third place winner represented by Tina Geddes, comes from the Faculty of Humanities and Education. This year’s Judges which included Mrs Sandra Glasgow, Ms. Kimala Bennet, Mr. Wayne Suther- land and Mrs. Dianna Blake-Bennett, were so impressed by the presentations that they offered one outstanding team an additional J$100,000.00 cash prize from the Judges. In addition, the top three teams secured a US$3,000.00 Scholarship each, to participate in the RevUp Caribbean Programme. Mona School of Business and Management on behalf of the Faculty of Social Sci- ences hosted a town hall meeting with members of the board of trustees for the American Foundation for UWI (AFUWI). The event was held in the Executive Lecture Theatre Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11:00am and over 95 students were in attendance. The members of the board of trustee included: Mr. George Willie, Mrs. Lorna Hawthorne, Ms. Lyenda Simpson Delp, Dr. Hazel Carter, Mr. Omar Hawthorne – and Mr. Wayne Melbourne.
