Together, one step forward at a time, with patience, persistence, and respect for the process and all participating in it, we look for- ward to strengthening the Institute, and its mandate to serve our students and the public by providing thought-leadership and policy-relevant information and guidance.
ACCESS
STUDENTS Despite the decrease in postgraduate enrollment across the Campus, SALISES’ marketing efforts resulted in 27 new registered students for the Online MSc in Development Studies programme for the 2022/2023 academic year. SALISES is also pleased to report that 22 students will be graduating in November 2023 of which 4 students will be awarded Distinction and 7, Merit. Efforts to enhance teaching, learning and student development included: • Introduction of a new course in Gender and Human Trafficking to be offered in the Online MSc in Development Studies; • New linkage between SALISES and the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission to obtain new micro-data sets on tertiary institutions in Jamaica; • Introduction of Libguides, a content management tool designed to provide users with access to research materials; • A two-day Qualitative Data Analysis workshop conducted for MPhil and PhD students; • A presentation to graduate students at The UWI, Cave Hill Campus, on the topic of “Introduction to Journals .” • Coordinated information literacy training provided through collaboration with faculty and administrators to ensure that students received the requisite training to develop their literacy competencies, to ultimately produce better research papers. • A new advisement service for students interested to enrol into our programs was rolled out and featured on the SALISES website.
