ALIGNMENT The IGDS - RCO continued to promote activism and public advocacy through a range of regional outreach efforts, both at the institutional and individual levels as it advanced the alignment pillar of the Triple A Strategy. Members of staff both organised and presented at public fora at the national, regional, and international levels and made several media appearances. Highlights included commemora- tion of International Women’s Day (IWD) and International Women’s History Month as follows: i) March 8, 2023: ‘Caribbean Sex Workers through Historical and Contemporary Lenses’ and a round table discussion with Professor Fox, Dr. Irma McClaurin and Professor Emeritus Patricia Mohammed on ‘Gender Archives for Diversity and Inclusivity’ (DigitALL: Gender Archives for Diversity and Inclu- sivity – UWITv Global); and ii) March 9, 2023: ‘Global Challenges and Successes: Gender Justice and Transnational Alliances’. This panel was moderated by Prof Fox and the discussion led by Dr. Mortley with the women panellists from Iran, Nepal, India, and South Africa. The Vice-Chancellor’s Forum on ‘Men Fostering Gender Justice’, was held on November 17, 2022 to commemorate International Men’s Day. The panel included leaders of men’s and LGBTQ groups from Jamaica and Grenada. The RCO collaborated with the Centre for Reparations Research, National Repa- rations Council, the United Maroon Indigenous Peoples and the Yamaye Council of Indigenous Leaders (YCOIL), to host the UN Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Peoples (IPs) Rights, Mr. José Fransisco Cali Tzay, in Jamaica and at The UWI from March 25–April 2, 2023. Several events held during the visit included: a breakfast with members of The UWI community; visits with a delegation of International IPs to IP communities in rural Jamaica, a public lecture which was delivered by the Special Rapporteur (https://uwitv.global/video/un-special-rapporteur-public-lec- ture/) and a meeting with the Honourable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, on March 5, 2023. Other outreach activities for the RCO included: i) the annual handbag project which was well supported by members of The UWI community; ii) Child’s Month empowerment session held at the Amy Jacques Garvey Centre and coordinated by IGDS-RCO staff and students, and supported by the Excelsior Community College; and iii) public education activities around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the 16 Days of Activism.
