OVERVIEW
Open Week The seventh staging of Library Open Week & Celebration of Books ran from Octo- ber 23–28, 2022, under the theme: “Libraries Adapting to the Future: A Call for Action”. For the previous two years, the event was hosted online, and the 2022 blended modality offered guests and presenters the opportunity to attend online or in person. There were seven activities over six days, including the Launch of the Week of activities and the Celebration of Books (COB) Exhibition. The Week began with a church service at the UWI Chapel, and there were four stimulating presen- tations, a customer appreciation event and a staff social. Presentations included: • The Inaugural and very successful LIS Virtual Conference, presented under the theme: “That was Then, This is Now: Libraries Adapting for the Future”, which had participants from USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Zambia and Barbados. • The very practical and rich presentations from some of the best of UWI’s legal luminaries who presented at, “Resetting the TISC/IP Helpdesk: A Call to Action.” • An expanded e-Resources event featuring six database service providers, dubbed, “eResources: Advancing 24/7 Access to the UWI Mona Library” The launch of Celebration of Books Exhibition kicked off events on Monday, October 24, with special greetings from the Honourable, Mrs. Fayval Williams, Minister of Education, Youth and Information, and Professor Dale Webber, Principal of the Mona Campus. Ms. Rochelle Daley, a student in the Faculty of Science and Tech- nology, offered beautiful renditions in song, while the Guest Speaker was Professor Kathleen Monteith, of the Department of History, and Chair of the Mona Library Committee. Dr. Natalie Corthésy replied on behalf of the authors. Celebration of Books Exhibition showcased the research and publication output of 22 UWI, Mona authors and 15 books. Sponsors for the week included: The Sagicor Group, Nationwide 90FM, NewsTalk 93 FM, Aunty Shelly’s, EduCom, Cute Cakes, and JP Foods. Halls of Residence Librarian Programme (HRLS) The Halls of Residence Librarian Programme is a Library outreach programme designed to facilitate First Year UWI Mona students as they begin their university journey. Each Hall of Residence is assigned a dedicated librarian to provide assis- tance to new students on all library related matters. In addition to periodic in-person visits, the provision of reference and research assistance was offered to students via WhatsApp and telephone. A number of pre- sentations were made covering electronic databases, virtual reference (Ask-a-Li- brarian), general Library services, and citation styles. Mr. Adrian Duncan, Liaison Librarian for Taylor Hall made a presentation on “Dress and Deportment” as guest speaker at the Hall’s “Yaad Life” Series.
