ALIGNMENT Staff members seized the opportunity for professional development presented by conferences, panel discussions, symposiums, talks, webinars and workshops that continued to be held virtually or were increasing face-to-face. Some of these sessions addressed the popular subject of “Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence (AI).” These staff members, some of whom accessed their Study and Travel Grant to pay registration fees for virtual sessions, included Mrs. Jesse Antwi-Cooper, Professor Lawrence Bamikole, Ms. Khimaja Connell, Professor Balaganapathi Devarakonda, Dr. Caroline Dyche, Dr. Joseph T. Farquharson, Dr. Carmeneta Jones, Ms. Jasmin Lawrence, Ms. Dejon Lingo, Dr. Vivette Milson-Whyte, Ms. Sandra Minott, Mrs. Lileth O’Connor-Brown, Dr. Rotimi Omosulu and Mrs. Tanyia Joy Wilkins Miller. Some sessions were hosted by the Caribbean Association of Ter- tiary-Level Academic Literacies Practitioners (CATALP); The Chronicle of Higher Education; Conference of the Modern Language Association of America (MLA); the Convention of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC); European Association of Teachers of Academic Writers (EATAW) Con- ference; National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE, USA); National Confer- ence of the Association of Professional Philosophers of Nigeria (APPON); UWI/ UNESCO; the various UWI campuses; and various Universities in Germany and in India. Some of those colleagues and others also participated in the 2 nd Annual FHE Research Symposium and Launch of the FHE Research Index on June 2, 2023. PAPERS PRESENTED Some academic staff members and graduate students were also able to advance research that they had started before or during the pandemic and shared their research findings in seminars/webinars, workshops and conferences. The following are some of their presentations given at major seminars/conferences: • Mr. Annife Campbell : “Does Past Writing Determine Future Writing? Predict- ing Marks on Undergraduate Students’ Essays Using a Predictive Probability Approach.” Paper presented at the sixth triennial Writing Research Across Borders (WRAB VI) conference held at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, February 18–22, 2023. 27 slides.
