The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter STUDENT PERSPECTIVE

YEAR 6 REFLECTION JACOB D & SELINA G YEAR 6 SRC

On Tuesday 20 th February, our Year 6 students were lucky enough to be a part of the Victorian Space Science Education Centre incursion called, “ Reach for the stars & Tickle my drone. ” We learnt to control Sphero robots on Mars. We worked in teams to analyse a problem, design a solution and evaluate our success with our robots. We planned our robot's mission, deploying our robot on Mars for a special mission. We created rockets with plastic bottles and different materials and launched them outside to see how high they would go. We explored different types of forces such as gravity, thrust, lift and weight. We used air pressure and water to fuel the rockets. We enjoyed the incursion because we got to code, explore and experiment in different ways. Thanks to Ms Wilson for organising the incursion and we can ’ t wait to continue exploring coding in Digital Design and STEM.

YEAR 7 REFLECTION BERTRAND N & JAHMIN S YEAR 7 SRC

The Year 7’ s have settled into Secondary School well. We are enjoying our classes and getting to know the secondary teachers. It was exciting getting our own lockers that we have the responsibility to look after and also changing classes and classrooms each session. The thing we have most enjoyed about the Secondary Campus is having the canteen! We are enjoying the new electives that are on the Secondary Campus. Some classes have started Dance and others have started Food Studies and it ’ s been fun learning new things.

We are really excited for the upcoming camp to Philip Island where we are going away for 2 nights and 3 days. It will be so much fun.
