A PERK OF BEING ONE OF the top 60 players on the Leg- ends Tour is that you conclude the year-long season on the holiday paradise island of Mauritius. All 60 are invited to spend a week in early Decem- ber at one of the world’s leading golf re- sorts, Constance Belle Mare Plage. Mauritius has in the new millennium transformed itself into one of the most popular and idyllic golf destinations on the planet, to the extent that five resorts on the island are now ranked among the World’s Top 100 Golf Resorts. Belle Mare Plage is considered by Golf World UK magazine to be the crown jewel among them in its 2025 edition, at No 23 in those rankings. After spending a week there attending the annual Mau- ritius Commercial Bank Legends, I can only concur with that lofty assessment. The north-east coast of the island has some of the best sandy beaches and the most luxurious hotels, plus four excep- tional golf courses. Belle Mare Plage has two of those, and its neighbours are Le Touessrok (ranked No 30 in the world) and Anahita (No 51). The other two Top 100 resorts are in the south of Mauri- tius, Heritage (No 25) and Le Paradis (No 52). Golf World says of Belle Mare Plage: “It is aptly named, with the finest beach on the island, a title worth owning. It is peak Instagram material, having a beauty savoured by thousands of guests every year, many of whom are return customers.” Tournaments and pro-ams Belle Mare Plage has two of the island’s oldest courses, and the resort has long maintained a competitive golfing sta- tus. It has been hosting professional and amateur tournaments at the end of the year since 1994. Firstly, the Mauri- tius Open, before it became part of the DP World Tour, and from 2009 onwards the European Senior Tour event which replaced it. This week in December is not just for the pros though. While they were playing their 54-hole tournament on the Legends course, more than 100 male and female amateurs were teeing up in their own individual 36-holer for the Contance Amateur Trophy on the Links course. And when those were
