THE MAJORS

Scioto CC in Ohio, where Bobby Jones won the 1926 US Open, will host the US Senior Open in July.

Nordqvist helming Europe. Another Presidents Cup on North American soil, in Chicago, and the gap between the teams is wider than ever. The margin was 7 points in Montreal in 2024. The match is at Medinah CC, scene of an epic US Sunday collapse in the 2012 Ryder Cup. American team captain, Brandt Snedeker, was one of eight US players who lost their singles as Europe rallied from 6-10 down to win 14½ - 13½. He was beaten 5/3 by Paul Lawrie. Surely there has to be a bigger South African representation in the 12-man International team – we’ve only had Christiaan Bezuidenhout the last two outings. Thriston Lawrence, Garrick Higgo and Jayden Schaper merit inclu- sion if they maintain their form. The new team captain is Geoff Ogilvy, the fourth from Australia, and winner of the 2006 US Open. Ogilvy turned his hand to golf course design in 2010, part- nering with Michael Cocking and Ash- ley Mead to form OCM. By coincidence they were tasked with the recent reno- vation of Medinah No 3. The removal of many trees means the revamped course bears little resemblance to the one from 2012, or where Tiger Woods won two of his four PGA Championships in 1999 and 2006.
