POKAGON BAND OF POTAWATOMI INDIANS CELEBRATE THE HOTEL EXPANSION AT THE SOUTH BEND FOURWINDS CASINO
Tribal Chairwoman Rebecca Richards addressed the attendees, The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, at the much anticipated Hotel Grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the expansion of the hotel for tribal members, veterans, employees, local officials, and patrons at the South Bend Fourwinds Casino.
Southbend, Indiana —March 1, 2023 – The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians hosted their grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the hotel expansion at the South Bend Fourwinds Casino on Tuesday, March 01, 2023, in South Bend, Indiana. The construction of the South Bend Four Winds Casino Hotel began in September 2019. The 23-story hotel includes 317 guest rooms and welcomed its first guest on March 1. A welcoming reception followed the ribbon-cutting ceremony for tribal members, veterans, employees, local officials, and patrons. At the ceremony, Chairwoman Rebecca Richards of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians stayed there Tuesday night, as did other members of the tribal council. “The property is just beautiful. The rooms, the amenities, the special touches.” Indian Gaming Association Chairman Ernie Stevens, Jr. said, “I congratulate the Pokagon Band on this historic expansion celebration. This event is more than celebrating the Four Winds South Bend Casino; it is a further testament to the success of Indian gaming and economic diversification.” He added, “It also serves as another arm that provides additional revenues to help address the expanded tribal
governmental services, employment, and economic opportunities beyond gaming and is a catalyst for many Tribal Governments to not only provide additional jobs but to advance the lives of their members and add to the local and state economies around them and created additional jobs. In January 2017, the Four Winds Casino in South Bend officially opened, marking a significant milestone. It was the first tribal casino in the State of Indiana that added some 1,200 jobs. The Pokagon Band already operates three casinos in southwestern Michigan.
