College – Issue 38

There was a fantastic line-up of cars this year, including a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, with low mileage and in original condition, owned by Tim Gould; two E-Type Jaguars; a 3.8 Jaguar; Martin Vincent’s R-Type Bentley, which

was purring, pristine, and polished inside and out; an XK 150 Jaguar and MG TD, and the list goes on. On behalf of all those who attended this memorable day I am mindful of the preparation and time put into these events by both Rod

Buchanan and Martin Vincent, who fully deserve much appreciation for their dedication and enthusiasm to ensure the Joe Studholme Memorial Vintage and Classic Car Day remains a successful CCOBA event.

What a great night! Thank you to everyone who attended our Old Boys get together in London. We will look forward to meeting again.

Marlborough Branch CCOBA Yacht Race 2020

won the wooden spoon, and the crew of Raconteur (Clive

Macfarlane) were awarded a prize for being the only boat to fly a “kite”! It was great to host Executive Principal Garth Wynne and CCOBA Alumni Manager Lizzie Dyer, their undoubted sailing skills no doubt contributing to Paradigm’ s superb performance. After an exciting day on the water, the boats gathered at Kumutoto Bay for a raft-up and prize-giving. Brodie, Ali and Tony Turnbull presented the prizes – and everyone enjoyed a celebration of a day that is as much about camaraderie and connection, getting out on the water and having fun, as it is about the competition. Mark your diaries now for next year’s race – Saturday 6 March 2021.

Saturday 7 March was a beautiful warm day on Queen Charlotte Sound, with variable winds (as per usual) from east to north-west … and a great day for the annual CCOBA yacht race. A field of 10 boats lined up to compete for the Jeremy Turnbull Memorial Trophy and, racing in excellent conditions, there were some exciting

duels and close-quarter battles rounding some of the marks.

The race was won by Paradigm (Zac Ensor), second place went to newcomer Stornaway (John McVicar and his smartly attired crew), and Free Rein (Chris Gorman) came third. Glory Days (Nigel Ackroyd)
