The first day of play for College was a one-day game against Shore. College lost wickets at regular intervals through a mixture of decent bowling, good fielding and slight misjudgements. “The partnership between Jamie Barr and Harrison Lund moved us towards three figures, but a late flurry of wickets meant we were only defending a score of 88. In the end, a seven wicket defeat in 26 overs was disappointing, despite playing a side as strong as Shore in our first match,” says Andrew. The next match, against Canberra, was College’s first ever experience of the 10-over game, and a success. “Sam Averill took the first wicket with his fifth ball and that set the tone, with College bowling tight lines and the intensity in the field remaining high. Tom McClean, Jack Belcher and Harrison Lund all took two wickets, with Jamie Barr taking the other. Harrison’s figures of two overs, five runs and two wickets were exceptional.
“ There was a good team vibe and, apart from the weather, it was an excellent trip. It was ideal pre-season experience, and just what we needed for building for the new year cricket competition. ” Andrew Levenger
