Promoted through Instagram (@ ccollegeproject), and picked up through Spotify, Apple and other major media platforms, the podcast reached about 900 in only a week. It was so successful that those that followed were certain to be picked up, and within a very short space of time The College Project had hit the charts and was officially named the Number 1 Entertainment News podcast in New Zealand on Apple Podcasts. “That was pretty cool for us,” says Angad.
“In the beginning we knew our market was the College
community, and I’d like to say that even if they haven’t all listened, everyone at least knows of The College Project . We did this from the beginning because we wanted a way to engage the students – there’s not a strong student voice on campus, and a student newspaper launched a while back only lasted a few weeks, so we were really stoked by the reaction to our first few podcasts.” Ethan describes the podcast as “sort of like a student newspaper in a more modern form. It allows for a bit of student voice and
is also a way for us to have fun with interviewing and talking to interesting people from the community.” While he and Angad sit on the couch and do the interviewing, Ben “does the technical stuff in the sound booth.” Already well skilled, he too is learning through experience. Editing takes “a solid amount of time” – and then there is getting the content moderated and signed off.
“We want to represent the school well,” says the trio. Every recording presents new challenges. There have been five so far, two from within College – with Dr Callum Bell “because most boys don’t really know our teachers personally that well, and he’s a really interesting guy with his magnificent YouTube channel and magic, among everything else, and Mr Wynne, so the boys can get to
