An exciting athletic event provided students with a unique opportunity to encourage and support participants as they strove to accomplish their goals. Early on the first Sunday of October, students prepared for the morning ahead. Spread across campus and awaiting the arrival of the runners, signs were organized, pom-poms distributed, cheers discussed, and routines brainstormed until the long-anticipated moment finally came and the very first runners arrived on property. Cheers could be heard across campus as students encouraged the athletes to keep going and finish out the final few miles that stood between them and their accomplishment of this great feat of endurance. Word of Life Huskies sports teams played a special role in the Adirondack Marathon as they were stationed at various checkpoints throughout the route to hand out bottles of water and encourage the runners to keep going. By the end of the day, many runners expressed immense gratitude for the encouragement and enthusiasm students brought to the day. Student participation didn’t end on the sidelines, however. There were several students and even some staff members who participated in the run itself. Seeing familiar faces pass by on the track was a clear highlight, and the excitement it created was certainly something that could be heard as the runners continued on their way. The annual Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival was a wonderful experience of practicing encouragement and fellowshipping with one another as students strove to represent Christ to those who got to experience campus for even just a few moments as they passed through.
