Read-Aloud is a fundamental “piece of the pie” for a Balanced Literacy classroom. It refers to the process in which teachers literally read out loud from engaging titles as the students listen and follow along. The teacher acts as a guide to the adventure in the story being read. This is a great time to test students’ knowledge and understanding of key vocabulary words. Teachers can also engage in “think aloud” activities to help students process what has transpired in the story so far and guess what might happen next.
