Community Health Workers

The Community Health Worker ( CHW ) Program at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine plays a critical role in enhancing medical education through experiential service learning . CHWs are trusted public health professionals who share lived experiences with the communities they serve and specialize in addressing social determinants of health ( SDOH ). By partnering CHWs and medical students in clinical environments , the program deepens students ’ understanding of the structural and societal factors that shape patient health . During the 2024 – 2025 academic year , CHWs supported medical students in student - led clinics through direct collaboration on morning huddles , patient chart reviews , and follow - up care .
