Welcome

Edge of the West

Welcome to the 2025 Edge of the West Production sale! We are excited to show you this set of bulls and bred females. From top to bottom we feel this is the highest quality offering we have had to date. What a great time to be in the cattle business. It seems like every day we hear of a new ‘high’ for a different weight class of feeders. It would appear with the slow retention of replacement females that these prices could be around longer than a normal cycle would dictate. We are also very excited to welcome Allied Genetic Resources to our sale this year. Allied is a genetics company that offers many opportunities to help seedstock and commercial cattlemen become more profitable. From feeder calf marketing opportunities through Superior Livestock to genomic data analysis, Allied is at the forefront of customer service. We are excited about the potential this new partnership has for our customers. Please visit with us or any Allied team member to learn more about the different services they offer. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime. Thank you! - The Edge of the West Sale Partners

Your partner in genetics advance their herds through A.I., E.T, as well as DNA testing technology. Maybe the most important thing to bull customers of this sale is our ability to assist in marketing the calves sired by the bulls in this offering. Allied has a feeder calf marketing division that assists customers in marketing feeder calves throughout the country. Our team is second to none at helping place Simmental influenced feeder calves and replacement females around the country through Superior Livestock, private treaty sales or possibly to Allied Feeding Partners directly. If you are interested in learning more about how we can assist in selling your product, please let us know. The breeders represented in this sale are

Allied Genetic Resources is excited to be a part of the 2025 Edge of the West Sale! We have worked with and been associated with the members of this sale on various levels, so we know the group well, it is great to be a part this year. The three families that make up this sale decided to get us involved not only for the services we can offer them but more importantly what we can offer you as a customer. Allied Genetic Resources is just as the name implies, it is a group of like-minded producers that have come together to offer resources for them and their customers that a single producer has trouble doing alone. We can help both seedstock and commercial breeders with genetic tools to

using our services to continue genetic progress to benefit their customers by producing a better product for you year after year. They would like you to also take advantage of our services to help you in areas you see fit. I commend these families for always thinking of their valued customers and using all the tools available to benefit the users of their genetics. Again, we are very excited to be working with these progressive breeders. If you have any questions on how we can assist you please feel free to contact any one of us on the Allied team. SRF Simmentals

SRF Simmentals is owned and operated by the Todd and Kelly Finke family. We are a fourth generation farm and ranch that has been in Todd’s family since his great grandmother homesteaded here in 1900, fol- lowed by his great grandfather who came a year later to also homestead in Passport township. Along with small grains and oil seed crops, beef cattle have been a constant presence on our farm since the beginning. We are thankful for over 5 decades in the Simmen- tal and Sim-influenced genetics business started by Todd’s parents, Roger and Susan in the early 1970’s. We demand that our cattle not only fit our environ- ment and resources but also excel in an environment that is known for its extremes. We expect our cows to be sound footed and for them to have level, well attached udders with small teats. We also need them to be sensible in their mature size, have enough depth, shape of rib, and muscle to efficiently convert grass into delicious beef. Our cows are expected to raise a high percentage of their bodyweight with NO creep feed, maintain their flesh and breed back in a short- ened breeding season each year. Cattle that do not meet these criteria are shipped to town. We don’t tolerate problems, and we don’t expect our customers to either. In addition to the physical traits our environment dictates we need, we also try to utilize all the ‘tools’ available to become more profitable for our customers and ourselves. We utilize EPDs, indexes, DNA data and genomic data to try and learn as much about our cattle as possible in order to make the best recommen- dations to our customers. Its hard, if not impossible, to make improvements if we don’t have a measuring stick to judge our progress. We feel it is imperative as seedstock suppliers to collect and report our data as accurately as possible and to utilize all the available tools to help produce a reliable, consistent product. Another reason we are very excited about this new partnership with Allied Genetic Resources is to utilize the tools and technologies they have developed to in- crease the potential profitability of our customers. We have utilized and seen the benefits of these tools in our program. We are excited about their potential to add to our customers bottom line.

After many years of discussion, we started a Johnes certification process this fall. Every animal on our ranch has been tested free of Johnes and we fully expect to be certified Johnes free after the mandatory 3-year testing period. Again, this year we developed the bulls and bred heifers at home, which has been a very rewarding experience for our family. The bulls are all hand fed a steamed corn; pellet mix formulated with a full min- eral pack by Hubbard Feeds. They also have access to free choice grass hay and a Hubbard mineral tub. We feel this ration does a good job of developing the bulls in a sensible manner to ensure their foot and structural integrity and their longevity. We will again offer free feeding until delivery, which we will start at the be- ginning of April after the bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam. The bred heifers have been developed as if we were keeping them ourselves and were ultra- sounded by Mandan Vet in August. If you are ever in our area, please feel free to stop in. We love visitors! Thank you for considering us as your seedstock source. Sincerely Todd & Kelly Finke, Carter, Abby, Anna & Casen

Homozygous Polled • Homozygous Black • A well put together son of our heifer sire, SRF Chance. He started out small and hit the gas right after to make it to a 110 WW ratio. If longevity matters to you, his granddam produced well until she was 18 years old!

Our program is very honored and proud to be in the Simmental seedstock business. We have a true passion in creating genetics that are effi- cient and profitable. We strive to make the best Simmental cow in the industry and yet we are continuously trying to make her better. We got started as young kids with our father always in- cluding us and taking the time to share his pas- sion for livestock with us. He has always been passionate about caring for animals and taught us the value in good husbandry and having quality livestock. He still helps us today and we can still ask him questions whenever we come across a situation that we just are not quite sure of. We owe a lot to him and are very thankful for having him in our lives. Our operation is a family driven platform that consists of the Tyler and Davis Kinn families. Our program is one that has everyone in our families pitching in and working together. We do not tolerate any genetics that are inefficient or cause any problems. We want cows that calve unassisted, mother up quickly, and carry a good temperament so that we can handle her with- out problems. We always look at implementing genetics that will improve the final product in our program. We have strived to always select cattle that are at the top level of maternal value within the Simmental breed. We have a true love for the livestock industry, and we would like to personally thank all of you for taking the time to evaluate this sale offering. Our bulls are developed at Tyler’s Place 12 miles west of Turtle Lake. They are being fed a midds based high fiber complete pellet with added corn, fortified with a Platinum trace mineral package and free choice of high-quality hay. We are shooting for a 3.5lb/day gain. These bulls are being developed in a way that keeps our cus- tomers successful. We want these bulls to carry longevity and structural correctness. The ration being fed is one that shows genetic differences between them while maintaining hoof integrity and longevity. The bulls did not have creep feed and did not have any ground net wrap fed to them. We want them to have the best opportu- nity possible to succeed for all of you.
