A weekly café offering warmth and support for those living with dementia Welcome to Coleraine’s Dementia Café
THERE’S A NEW PLACE in Coleraine where kindness is always on the menu. Since mid-August, Age Concern Causeway, in partnership with GP Social Work Causeway and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, has been running a weekly Dementia Friendly Café at Hope2Families, Long Commons car park. Every Wednesday from 2.30 to 4pm, the space is transformed into a hub of warmth, understanding and community spirit. Designed for anyone living with dementia, those awaiting a memory assessment, and their families or carers, the café offers so much more than just a hot drink. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, participate in dementia-friendly activities, and meet others who truly understand. Carers can find both practical advice and emotional support, while those living with dementia can feel valued, seen, and at ease. The café is free to attend and there’s no need to book, simply drop in, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and take a moment to connect. For many, it becomes a midweek highlight: a place to share stories, laughter, and sometimes some of the more difficult moments, all without judgment. It’s a reminder that kindness, conversation, and community can make a world of difference. In a town where everyone knows someone affected by dementia, this café is more than a service - it’s a lifeline. For more details, contact Mandy on 07483 805510
