THE ONE-DOLLAR BILL I have before me a one-dollar bill. Have you ever examined one carefully? There is no danger of my not recognizing it as a one-dollar bill, for it has “one” on it, in some form, twenty-five times! To those who handle it or see it, the bill is really saying, twenty-five times, “ I am a one-dol lar bill” ! It seems eager to let it be known that it is a one-dollar bill. This small, green piece o f paper is really sending out a challenge to those of us who know the Lord Jesus as our . Saviour— telling us that we should let it be known that we belong to Him. The bill makes no secret o f the fact that it is a one-dollar bill, does it? Why should we ever try to hide the fact that we belpng to the Lord Jesus, and that He is our Saviour? God’s Word says much about confessing Him “before men” and “ with the mouth.” Read from your Bibles Romans 10:9, 10 and Matthew 10:32. Do you see what the word, “confess” means here? Yes, it is very important to tell others that we are Christians and that the Lord Jesus died for us. And God is telling us that we should do this wherever there is an opportunity. I once knew a little girl who was so happy when she received the Lord Jesus as her Saviour, that she felt she had to share the good news with her playmates. She went to school the next day and an nounced to all o f her friends, “I have given my heart to Jesus.” Her name was Jewel —and how glad she was to become one o f JeSus’ precious jewels! There are other ways, too, to let it be known that we belong to the Lord Jesus. Did you ever hear your mother say, “A c tions speak louder than words” ? Surely you have! God’s Word says that we are to be “doers” of the Word as well as “hear ers.” It is by the things that we do, and the words that we speak, that we should let others know that we belong to Jesus. Some boys and girls say with their lips they are Christians, but they fail to act very much like Christians. God sees the heart, you know, but people see only our outward appearance. How important it is, then, to let others know by all that we do that the Lord Jesus is our Saviour! There is a verse in Colossians 3:17 which says: “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name o f the Lord Jesus.” What an excellent motto for all o f u s! Think of the one-dollar bill. Remember how it is always trying to tell what it is. Let it remind you to be ready and willing to show—in every place and in every way— that you belong to the Lord Jesus!—M.S.H.

But as you take the books off the shelf, how do you know which books to choose? By the titles, of course! You read the titles, and if they appeal to you, down come the books. And you expect to find that the books measure up to their titles, don’t you? Even the pictures must in some way pertain to the titles. O f course, if you wanted to study fig ures, you would choose a book entitled, Arithmetic; but if you wanted to study maps, a geography book would be your choice. Suppose you selected a book of

poetry, and turned its pages to find them full o f figures. How disappointed you would be! Like the books in the library, we bear a name, boys and girls—a very precious name. All who have accepted the Lord Jesus as Saviour bear the name of “ Chris tian.” “ The disciples were called Chris tians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). Is that your title? If so, do not people have a right to expect you to live up to your name ? God’s Word says, in 2 Corinthians 3 :3, that we “are manifestly declared to be the epistle o f .Christ . . . written not with ink, but with the Spirit o f the living God.” As folk turn the pages o f your life book, they should see there things that pertain, to followers of the Lord Jesus. And there are pictures in your life book. W e are illustrating the pages of our life by the way we act day by day under all circumstances. What kind of pictures are you putting into your books? Disobedience to parents, or rudeness to playmates do not make very nice pictures, do they? But I can think of some lovely pictures I have seen. One day, I noticed a boy in a street car give has seat to a tired lady. That was a lovely picture. And a girl, who helped her mother with the work and cared for her baby brother without complaining, made a beautiful pic ture, too. I am sure you can think of many others. Let us ask our Heavenly Father to make us more worthy o f our title, boys and girls! Colossians 3:17, I believe, contains the secret: “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Lovingly, Y our J unior E ditor . How to Join the K. Y. B. Answer to “ Bible Arithmetic” Problem The Gospel according to Mark.

A Letter Dear Readers of the Junior King’s Business :

I am thinking o f you this month as rep resentatives o f the Lord Jesus—in practi cally every state o f the United States, in Canada, and even in Africa. I wonder if you are representing Him just where you are. Let me talk about something else for a moment—about books—to show you what I mean. How we like to visit libraries! Don’t you like to see tfye rows and rows o f books, and take one down here and there to turn its pages ? Some books have pictures, and pictures always attract us. Is there any one who does not like a book with pic tures?
