CITY BETWEEN THE SKY AND WATER Grad između neba i vode
Septembar September
Between East and West
S eptember is a particularly significant month for us, but also an opportunity to celebrate journeys that have bridged continents. It was exactly a year ago, on 30 th September 2024, that we launched our maiden flight from Belgrade to the city of Guangzhou, known as the Gateway to Southern China. The regular flight to this beautiful city that’s adorned with futuristic skyscrapers and tranquil Cantonese gardens quickly exceeded all our expectations. It has become a symbol connecting people, businesses and ideas, opening the doors to the Far East and the ancient Chinese civilisation. As of 11 th January this year, our network further expanded to include Shanghai, the city that never sleeps. As a city where history intertwines with the modern skyscrapers of Pudong, it is a true epicentre of global events. Over the course of just six months, this route has been flown by more than 20,000 people, including business travellers, tourists and families. This is a clear indication of the value of such flights. Every flight we operate to China brin- gs new opportunities for friendships, trade connections and un- forgettable experiences. China is part of the broader story of distant destinations and the expansion of Air Serbia’s network to encompass interesting markets around the world. In addition to China, we connect Bel- grade directly with New York and Chicago, further strengthening our city as a hub between three continents. These two American metropolises, known for their tourist highlights and cultural attra- ctions, business opportunities and large diaspora populations, ha- ve attracted great attention from Serbian travellers for years. We will continue to expand our network, open new markets and create opportunities for inspiring stories. Every journey, no matter where it leads, begins with a single departure, and every take off carries the promise of new experiences and possibilities.

ISTORIJSKI REZULTAT ER SRBIJE HISTORIC RESULT FOR AIR SERBIA NAJVEĆI BROJ PREVEZENIH PUTNIKA U JEDNOM DANU THE MOST PASSENGERS CARRIED IN A SINGLE DAY
A ir Serbia surpassed its own record for the number of passengers were recorded on the Serbian national airline’s flights of Friday 1 st August, representing a strong indicator of continued growth and passenger trust. “This year is already going down in the company’s history as the most successful, with monthly results exceeding expectations. On the day we set the record for the number of passengers carried, the most popular destinations in the region were Tivat and Podgorica, while in Western Europe they were Zurich, Paris, Barcelona, Milan and Rome. A significant number of passengers also flew to New York and Guangzhou, which is yet more proof of the high demand for long-haul flights,” said Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek. The result serves as confirmation of the successful strategy to develop the flight network and increase the number of destinations, as well as providing proof that Air Serbia remains committed to its mission of connecting Serbia with the world quickly, comfortably and reliably. The company continues to improve its services and expand its capacities, ready to meet growing passenger demand and global aviation trends. passengers in a single day at the start of August, which is traditionally the busiest month in aviation. September is the perfect mon- th to explore Shanghai. With summer slowly waning, warm days and pleasant evenings re- main, while city parks and the banks of the Huangpu River carry the scents of autumn. The humidity is bearable and the sky is often clear — ideal for walks and filter-free photos. For starters, head to the Bund, a riverside promenade overloo- king the futuristic Pudong side of the city. History and the fu- ture touch here – with art de- co buildings dating back to the 1930s on the one side, and the glittering Oriental Pearl Tower and glass skyscrapers on the other. It is at its most beautiful during twilight, when the lights are switched on and the sky turns from orange to deep blue. If you like panoramic views, climb the observation deck of Shanghai Tower, the world’s third tallest building. The view from a height of 632 metres isn’t forgotten easily. For a mo- re tranquil atmosphere, stro- ll through the Yuyuan Garden, which is a real Chinese garden dating back to the 16 th century that’s surrounded by a market where you can try the famous City that never sleeps
xiao long bao soup dumplings. Shanghai also offers cultu- ral events in September, li- ke the Shanghai Tourism Fe- stival, complete with parades, concerts and light installations along Nanjing Road. Art lovers can drop in at the Shanghai Museum or the Power Station of Art, where the exhibits are contemporary and the building is impressive in its own right. For those seeking respite, es- cape the crowds in the Fren- ch Concession — Xintiandi and Tianzifang, which are packed with micro galleries, cafés and designer shops. Locals gather
at bars with terraces in the eve- nings, with the September eve- nings mild enough that you can spend hours outside. When it comes to food, Shan- ghai is paradise. Apart from lo- cal dumplings and noodles, there are famous spots like Lost Heaven (offering modern interpretations of the cuisine of southwest Chinese) and Jia Jia Tang Bao with its authentic dumplings. If you have a sweet tooth, try the sheng jian bao – fried and filled bread buns that are eaten piping hot. Getting around is simple: the metro rail network is clean, fast and takes you to almost all attractions. September is al- so a wonderful time for a boat ride on the Huangpu – thanks to the refreshing breeze from the river. Shanghai combines the best of both worlds in Sep- tember – the dynamics of the metropolis and the beauty of autumn. And whether you’re climbing to the top of a skys- craper or sipping tea in a quiet courtyard, you won’t leave this city feeling indifferent.

This city has excellent me- tro connections, but walking its streets reveals interesting nooks.
T he international drinks can children’s theatre festival, characterised by the combin- ing of theatrical arts and ecology, re- cycling and socialising, will this year take place in Kruševac from 3 rd to 7 th September. Also making this festi- val unique is the fact that tickets for its performances aren’t bought with money, but rather with the handing over of at least five used drink cans that will be sent for recycling. The five-day festival has a reper- toire that will this year include ten performances by participants from
seven countries: Montenegro, Croa- tia, North Macedonia, Hungary, Bul- garia, Slovakia and Serbia. Apart from presenting a high-quality and diver- sified theatre programme to Serbia’s youngest citizens, the festival also has the mission of visiting a different city each year and supporting the ef- forts of the local community to teach children and their parents about re- cycling and environmental protec- tion. More than 400 children and pa- rade participants will raise the city to its feet and launch a symbolic hunt for discarded cans on 3 rd September.

Be Useful has a subtitle with which the author – better known as a champion bodybuilder, actor and state governor – offers seven tools for a better life. The famous Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed a lot about these tools in a Netf- lix documentary, but you can now also read about things that he believes are essential for success in this new book. And the truth is that he’s proved successful in every desire he’s pursued! He writes, among other things, “if there is one unavoidable truth in this world, it’s that there is no substitute for putting in the work. There is no shortcut or growth hack or magic pill that can get you around the hard work of doing your job well, of winning something you care about, or of making your dreams come true. People have tried to cut corners and skip steps in this process for as long as hard work has been hard. Eventually, those people ei- ther fall behind or get left in our dust, because working your ass off is the only thing that works 100 per cent of the time for 100 per cent of the things worth achieving.”

odrastao u Nju Saut Vejlsu u Austra- liji. To gradi otpornost. Gluma je maraton, ne sprint. Uči vas strpljenju, promašaji- ma, odbijanjima – i to vas oblikuje.
To me resetuje. Najbolji odmor je onaj kada si svima oko sebe potpuni stranac. To mi vra- ća energiju. Moda, intrige i humor – teško je odoleti. Karijeru ste uporedo gradili u filmovima i televizijskim serijama. A baš u tim iznenađe- njima često leži ono najbolje.

INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
September, and Baker insists that he nev- er grew bored of the character that he played for seven years, because he never experienced him in the same way. - He changed together with me. Initial- ly cynical and wounded, later – as he con- cluded some chapters in his life – he be- came warmer and more willing to once again trust people. I think the same ap- plies to us in the real world – we all pass through such transitions. Despite there being dozens of crime series on televi- sion, the DNA of The Mentalist is differ- ent. It’s not just a story about solving crime. We dealt with psychology and hu- man nature, but also the lies we tell oth- ers and ourselves. Audiences loved Pat- rick because, although he was brilliant, he was also vulnerable. And that balance of strength and weakness is something I’d always wanted to play. The character of Patrick Jane earned him nominations for both Golden Globes and Emmy Awards, but Baker says that form- ing a connection with the audience was more important than any award. People still approach him today to tell him how Patrick helped them get through difficult times, which the actor says is an achieve- ment that can’t be compared to anything. Born in Tasmania, Baker grew up in the Australian state of New South Wales. His career began in soap operas and small- er television projects, and prior to depart- ing for America he worked in everything from TV commercials to theatre. - There was no Instagram, TikTok etc. Može izgledati lepo, ali ne traje Popularity without experience is like a house without foundations. It might look nice, but it won’t endure
back then. If you wanted to be an actor, you had to do small roles for years, study, fall and get back up. Young actors today have platforms that provide them with overnight visibility. But visibility and du- rability aren’t the same. Popularity with- out foundations only lasts as long as the next viral clip. You don’t condemn new media, but you do believe that acting still requires dedication and patience as a craft? - Yes. Perhaps that’s an antiquated view, but I think it’s important to learn how to lose a role, to be told ‘no’, and to carry on. That builds resilience. Acting is a mara- thon, not a sprint. You learn patience and to handle failures and rejections – and that shapes you. Can you identify yourself in Patrick? - Well, I hope I’m not a con artist (laughs), but, yes, a part of me exists in him. I like to observe people and I like to “catch” small tells in their behaviour. Per- haps that’s an abnormality of the pro- fession – as actors and detectives share that obsession with the details. The dif- ference is that I’m not as obsessed with a single mission – I like to have multiple waves that I can “ride” (laughs). When it comes to this experience, I’m definitely most grateful for the fact that television teaches you discipline. It teaches you to get up every morning, to be ready and to give your all. As an aside, are you an avid surfer off set? - Surfing teaches me the same thing as acting: that you can’t control everything. The sea has its own rhythm, and all you do is choose how to respond to it. I al- so enjoy photography and travelling, and
I’m particularly inspired by places that are a long way from mass tourism. When I’m not working, I like to disappear for a while. That’s my reset. The best holi- day is when you’re a complete stranger to everyone around you. That restores my energy. Most people today associate you with The Mentalist, but many also remember you from the hit film The Devil Wears Prada, in which you portrayed fashion photographer Christian Thompson... - That was an amazing experience – work- ing with such a team and watching how Meryl Streep created a character in re- al time. I can’t reveal much about the se- quel… other than that I’d love to return, provided the story is right. Fashion, in- trigue and humour – that’s tough to re- sist. You’ve built your career working simultaneously in film and on television shows. Could you describe one of these loves as being greater than the other? - Television is today more courageous than it was 20 years ago. When I was starting out, film was the pinnacle, and you did TV until getting an opportuni- ty to work in film. Nowadays, some of the best stories and most profound roles are found on television. Audiences ex- pect more, and authors are more willing to give that to them. But the genre, for- mat, and even the type of media, don’t play a decisive role in what you will offer. You are a key player. The most important thing to understand is that you can’t plan everything. You can prepare to the best of your ability, but life will always bring surprises. And the best is hidden precise- ly in those surprises.

Ra- ni primer Bouvijeve vizuelne teatral- nosti svakako je omot njegovog trećeg albuma, „Man Who Sold The Wor-
ld“, objavljenog u aprilu 1971.
