WHAT WE CAN EXPECT THIS AUTUMN

Trends that will define fashion The thoughts of designers seemingly revolve around ideas of femininity, while a sense of nostalgia pervades throughout. Faux fur nonetheless reigns supreme in an unexpected way I t seems as though designers are focused more than ever be- fore on ideas of femininity in fashion, which appear in indi- vidual pieces on the catwalks, but also in the collections of brands with female creative directors. The notes of the Prada show asked “what does femininity mean today?” — with Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons explor- ing the archetypes of womenswear and redefining notions of female per- fection. Miu Miu also explored this concept, through a show entitled “Feminini- ties” that sought to present “an eval- uation of the feminine” expressed through the medium of clothing — representing a common theme of this season’s collections. Prada and stylist Lotta Volkova experimented with dif- ferent representations of femininity throughout the show, including sym- bols like brooches and padded bras in the style of the 1950s. For her de- but collection at Givenchy, Sarah Bur- ton paid tribute to the studio’s origins through a distinctly feminine perspec- tive, reinterpreting iconic archival sil- houettes like hourglass figures and evening gowns. The Schiaparelli collec- tion was also focused on women, with Daniel Roseberry’s designs represent- ing a reimagining of old Hollywood glamour from a new perspective. If the collections for Spring/Summer 2025 were based on soft, ethereal fab- rics and romantic moments, the Au- tumn/Winter collections represent their polar opposite. Unlike the ro-
