S eptember doesn’t on- ly bring golden hues to Serbia’s treetops, but also a rich cultur- al rhythm that extends from its major cities to its pic- turesque small towns. This is the month when the arts relocate from galleries and theatres to streets, squares and courtyards, calling on both visitors and locals to become part of the creative at- mosphere. One of the most vibrant events is the Novi Sad Festival of Street Mu- sicians, which transforms the low- er town area of Petrovaradin For- tress into an openair stage. Music of all genres, mimes, performance artists and interactive installations form a world that almost erases the boundaries between audience and artist. From 13 th to 20 th September, Ne- gotin hosts the Days of Mokran- jac music festival, dedicated to great composer Stevan Mokran- jac, who was born in this town. Alongside concerts of choral and classical music in an authen- tic setting, visitors can also tour the house where Mokranjac was born, as well as exploring this part of Serbia’s winemaking tradi- tion and history. In the south of the country, LIFFE – the Leskovac Interna- tional Film Directing Festival runs from 16 th to 21 st September and brings together authors from around the country and the entire region, while street performanc- es and workshops ensure this fes- tival is also attractive to passers- by. Leskovac in September thus becomes a place for film, theatre and good food to come together. Belgrade, as always, has a wealth of countless happenings. From larger to smaller events, doors are opened to independent artists, both established and newcomers, at traditional and alternative ven- ues. Many of the ateliers of Sa- vamala, Dorćol and Zvezdara have open-studio days during this pe- riod, enabling visitors to take a peek at creative art processes.
U ritmu istorije
