“A Strawberry Moon Rising,” Digital Photo, 2020, framed 12 x 18 in, $220. 2020 was the year of the great “lock down.” I purposely used this year and late 2019 as a motivation to explore the scenes in my “backyard.” Both of these images were taken less than ten miles from my home. “A Strawberry Moon Rising” was taken on the wetlands lake in my backyard.

experiences that shaped his life and his creativity. Upon his wife’s retirement, Ragnar was able to arrange to work in a home office at their beloved vacation house in Kalkaska. With access to the ever-evolving beauty that is Northern Michigan, Ragnar ’s interest in photography was rekindled. A chance meeting with noted landscape/nature photographer, Tom Haxby, gave Ragnar the mentoring he needed to grow, learn, and develop his skills. Once the creative candle for photography was lit, it only began to burn brighter and brighter, making photography a wonderful creative outlet. Now that Ragnar is retired, photography has become one of his creative passions, inspiring him to explore and shoot images in magnificent locations like Oregon, Iceland, Ireland, and Hawaii. He also uses photography to quench his creative curiosity by exploring studio, macro, and nature photography. But the most satisfying photography for Ragnar is when it combines travel with landscape photography, which has produced some of his strongest and most recognized images. THIS YEAR: 2020 was a year where I really truly learned to appreciate the gifts I have. I found a profound gratitude for the love my wife Kristy and I share. This joy of creating led him to Purdue University, where he worked his way to a degree in Mechanical Engineering. From there, he pursued a career at a Fortune 500 chemical company in mid-Michigan.
