“Bat Sh*t Crazy,” Clay and found object assemblage, embellished with acrylic, 2020, 16.5 x 11 x 9 in, $975. Think about this year.

Michelle Tock York ABOUT : I relish our world that isn’t quite perfect, in the asymmetry of people, places and things, as well as the truth in nature’s colors and textures. You can see this in the exaggeration of disproportion in my figures and complementary colors within the paintings. I speak through my hands with the molding of the clay. I thrill at the hunt for salvaged relics, and the sense of unity as I bring together these disparate elements for the viewer ’s contemplation. I prefer to connect with others through my art, granting each piece a voice to tell its own story. Many of my pieces whisper a modern take on the classic Grimms’ Fairy Tales. There is a moral hidden somewhere in the story of each sculpture, and who knows – it could be as simple as taking the time to discover your own splendor. GALLERIES: Higher Art Gallery, Traverse City, MI; Sleeping Bear Gallery, Empire, MI; Twisted Fish Gallery, Elk Rapids, MI CONTACT: Website.

“Finding Solace,” Clay on wood panel with driftwood and wire, embellished with acrylic and pencil, 2020, 19.5 x 25 x 5 in, $1200. Going outdoors this past year is what kept me sane and what keeps me sane. I find beauty in the quiet places/ spaces. This is my visual reflection of thanks for the blessings of Northern Michigan’s finest woods, meadows, beaches, and waters.
