Speaker Biographies
Bill Peterson - SERC Bill Peterson is the Senior Manager, Outreach and Training with SERC Reliability Corporation. Bill has contributed over 20 years to the information technology profession, with 17 years dedicated to securing the bulk power system. He started working with CIP security in 2007 and has helped numerous organizations strengthen their security posture over the years. Previously, Mr. Peterson was the Manager, IT and Assistance, Program Manager, Cyber Security in the Technical Resources department, and a Senior CIP Engineer in the Compliance group. Prior to joining SERC, he worked in security roles for Duke Energy and the New York Power Authority. Mr. Peterson has a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration on Information Technology Management from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome. Mr. Peterson has a Bachelor’s of Science degree with a dual major in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Technology from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome. Bill holds Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certifications and a Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

Hassan Hamdar- SERC Hassan Hamdar joined SERC in July of 2019 when the Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) merged its Regional Entity operations with SERC. He is part of the Situational Analysis/Event Assessment department at SERC, where he handles all event analysis and coordinates NERC Alerts for the Region. During his 11 years at FRCC, Hassan worked in various roles. His main focus was event analysis and situational awareness, but he was also responsible for misoperations reporting and system operator training. Hassan has a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida and a NERC Certified System Operator.

Daniel Brown - SERC Daniel Brown is a senior hurricane specialist and the warning coordination meteorologist at NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami. Mr. Brown received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1993. Mr. Brown began his career with NOAA in 1993 as a meteorologist intern with the Tropical Analysis Forecast Branch of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. After briefly working at the National Weather Service forecast office in Miami, Mr. Brown rejoined the Tropical Analysis Forecast Branch as a forecaster in 1998. He became a hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center in 2006 and was promoted to senior hurricane specialist in 2009. Mr. Brown also coordinates NHC’s outreach and training activities and works with FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute to develop hurricane preparedness training courses for emergency managers. He has won two NWS National Isaac Cline Awards for his work in bringing hurricane science and preparedness webinars to elementary schools across hurricane-vulnerable areas of the United States. Andy Pankratz - Florida Power & Light Company Andy Pankratz is the Senior Director of Power Delivery Emergency Preparedness at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). In this role, Andy oversees all plans and processes related to emergency response, event mitigation, and recovery. These processes apply to hurricane and other severe storm conditions, grid capacity shortfall and emergency events, and cyber and physical threats to the FPL and NextEra systems. Andy is also responsible for corporate business continuity plans across the NextEra Energy enterprise. Upon Andy’s graduation in December of 1999 from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Andy joined FPL as a Protection and Control Engineer in the Dade Area. Over his 22+ year career, Andy has held various positions of increased responsibility such as Protection and Control Engineer for the Dade and Broward Areas, Reliability Leader for the Broward Area, Transmission Scheduler/System Operator, System Operations Manager-Load Dispatch, System Operations Manager-Nextera Energy Resources, Senior Manager-System Operations, Transmission & Substation Area Manager for Miami-Dade County, and Director of the Distribution Control Center & Smart Grid Operations. Andy maintains a NERC Reliability Operator certification and is a Six-Sigma Green Belt. He has served as the vice-chair of the NERC Project 2014-03 and 2009-02 Standard Drafting Teams. He also previously represented FPL on the FRCC Operating Reliability Subcommittee, Florida – Southern Coordinating Group, and various other FRCC Task Forces. Andy has also been the subject matter expert for multiple TOP/BA audits and control center certifications. Sean Meredith - Entergy Prior to assuming his role as the Vice President responsible for System Resilience in October of 2021, Sean was the Vice President of Power Plant Operations for the Louisiana Power Generation fleet. In this role he was responsible for the operations, maintenance, and strategic planning of the Louisiana fleet, which consists of over 8000 MW of generation. He assumed the role as the director of operations for the Transmission Control Center North in June 2018. In this role, he was responsible for the transmission operations in Entergy’s four-state service territory. He served in multiple leadership positions at Entergy in Transmission and Nuclear prior to his role in the Transmission Control Center. Prior to joining Entergy, Sean served in the United States Navy as a submarine officer aboard three fast attack submarines over a ten- year span. While aboard his last submarine, the USS Hartford, he served as the Engineer Officer responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the nuclear reactor plant and all support systems. Sean earned a bachelor's degree in systems engineering from the United States Naval Academy and completed the naval nuclear propulsion program. His wife Maureen and two sons, Bryson (17) and Brady (15), reside with Sean in The Woodlands, TX.
